I bought some basically new stock TRD Bilsteins from a nice gentleman on here a while back for a really good price and couldn't pass them up. Apparently they're off a new 21 or 22 Tacoma because I think he works at a dealership or something. Anyway, I've got a base truck with a stock set up. I still haven't got around to getting them installed yet. I'm pretty sure my shocks are still ok for now. It's still a 7 year old truck with 42,000. But it will be soon.

My question is, what type of improved ride qualities am I going to receive from these new shocks? Any lift at all? Will this stiffen the ride? I'm not off roading with my truck as I'm still paying it off so I'm not necessarily worried about better options right now. I got these cheap.

Second question is, can I use the same hardware on my old stuff or should I get new nuts and stuff for these?

Did this years ago. From what I remember the ride was a little smoother when hitting potholes and bumps. Shocks don’t lift. And yes, always get new hardware when installing shocks.

If he bought the full coilover from the 3rd Gen owner, yes it will lift the front, 3rd Gen sits about an inch higher than 2nd Gen.

Granted. But that’s not the question, the question is about shocks. If it’s the entire coil over, you are more correct than I.

Lots of people refer to the whole coilover as a shock, so 50/50 odds. I’d be surprised if someone removed the coilovers from a newer 3rd gen, disassembled them, and gave away only the shock. Or is it a strut? Whatever, you get my point.

It’s possible if it was an upgrade to 5100s.

Did they come with the front coils? If they did then you can expect a 1” lift up front bringing you pretty damn close to a level. I did this on my 2008 years ago.

2016 coils and Bilstein shocks on my 2008 PreRunner. Rode well.

From everything I read on here, the factory bilstein are softer and plush.

you can reuse the same hardware. It’s all the same.

FWIW, I put 2020 Pro coilover on my FJ, lifted a little over an inch and gave the rear shocks to brother in law and he put on his 2012 DCSB 4x4, all were fine and cheap too!

Nope no coils unfortunately. Just the shocks. I wonder if I can source those decently cheap. Thanks for all the replies
