Heh... that's an obvious quick picture after top off... the oldest TW mpg trick. The summary page with miles traveled is the screen you'd need to make a point.

Plus check your "current mileage" bar.. appears to be about 12 mpg and 6 mpg.

I bought a Sport before I knew the difference between an OR and Sport. I like it and wouldn't have made a different decision because in April 2021 there wasn't much inventory around (although it was better than now). A few things to consider:

    • The Sport has ABS valving up near the passenger side firewall whereas the Pro and OR do not - this sucks if you are a sport owner looking to mount a second battery in the spot. Sport owners are limited with their dual battery setups.
    • The OR has a few of the features the Pro comes with as far as screens on the dash
    • No locking rear diff on the Sport =(
    • The Sport has the hood scoop which is good for an extra 3.375 MPG and 85 horsepower.
I'm sure there are other differences, those are just the ones I think about. I think you cannot go wrong either way - it isn't like you are comparing a Cannondale to a Carbon Cub for transportation. You'd need to really focus on your use case there whereas here it is just minor feature differences.

So your saying you get over 3mpg more and 85 more horsepower because of the skewp?

You just happen to get 50% better than listed MPG's, and the dash computer is in time reading isn't nowhere near as good as your shown overall mileage? Sure pal. You got one of those super special hybrid powered Tacoma's.

Perceived miles per gallon and perceived horsepower gains. I can't wait to see how the numbers increase with a vinyl decal on the hood. I also understand the scoop increases instances of panty dropping. Will follow up with you on that metric when I have had the truck a bit longer.

Hey Ed, glad you could join this party!

Op, what are your goals with the Tacoma?
I bought my Tacoma just because I love Tacomas. I didn’t really have any goals as to what to do with it. I just wanted a truck. This is my second Sport and third Tacoma. (First Sport was a second gen, second tacoma was an SR). At the time I was looking for one, they have both OR and Sport for me to choose from. And they were priced about the same. I fell in love with the OR immediately. It had the tech package and had a lot of cool buttons, knobs and switches lol. I didn’t care about test driving any of them. I didn’t have to - Come on they’re Toyotas… better yet.. Tacomas. I didn’t really care about the off road package - I do not go off roading.
But then I got to look at the sport. (The salesman parked both of them side by side, see original pic that I took above at the time). I immediately fell in love with the hood scoop (hahahaha. Sorry skewp haters.. LOL) and immeditely forgot about the OR. The scoop and the way the truck looked were the reason I settled with the Sport. And they were both Silver - my favorite color!

Are you planning to Off-Road quite a bit or be mostly on the street?
Not really, maybe? - if somebody invites me to go off roading, I’ll probably join the fun. (Never been offroad since I had my first tacoma in 2009).

The comments about the "skewp" are ridiculous but that's how some people feel.
I respect that. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. And we, tacoma owners should be able to do what we want with our trucks no matter what others think.

Are you a stickler for manual transmission or is automatic transmission ok?
It doesn’t really matter to me. I can drive both.

I enjoy reading everyone’s comment. A lot of you are pretty funny!

I went Sport as we do not have DC OR in 6MT, only AC 6MT or DC Pro 6MT which is highly overpriced in my opinion. I can dump the extra $10k I would have spent on a Pro to build something better. I do also like the painted fender flares & bumper. Looks finished to me!

Think the scoop looks more aggressive, (which I like) but dig the black chin front bumper and fender flares on the OR. Considered a Sport to get a manual, but my wife talked me into the auto, which I begrudgingly did…though find I am enjoying now. Can have the best of both worlds since you can kinda drive it like a stick in S Mode or be lazy and leave it full auto.

So I bought an SR with the SX package to get the black fender flares, but no need for a locker. Have a locker on my 1st Gen and rarely used it. Do go off pavement but nothing harder than Forest Service roads, the auto LSD works well enough for me, save the hard stuff for the dirt bike.

Maybe I need to swap on a skewp hood… :p
