How is this unit better than the more expensive Pioneer stock unit that comes in all non JBL tacomas?

Hmmm, I'm doing something wrong. Installed it today and my steering wheel controls aren't working.

I have a blue connector for the RR - it has a 3.5mm and a blue/green (yellow?) coming out of it. The manual says this is the "Steering Wheel Control Cable". I'm plugging it into the 3.5mm at bottom left of HU, but what do I do with the blue/green wire?

Actually I see the manual says only the 3.tmm OR the blue/green wire is used.

I also noticed my maestro is double red blinking though. Which is a data cable problem? My install guide says no data cable is needes though... Argh this is killing me.

Edit: okay I'm retarded. The RR manual absolutely does say to use the data cable for my year/stereo config. Will try it out

Edit2: yeah I have no idea what version RR manual I was looking at but it was bad. I found the most recent one and it had different instructions. Works like a charm now!

So I did this install recently and have the Germes unit. My backup camera works but my front does not. I’ve wired it every which way and I cannot get it to work. I have wired it to the blue remote wire, I ran the red wire from the camera inside the truck, etc. I’ve even plugged it into the backup camera plug that I know works and get nothing. Any thoughts? Maybe the camera just happens to need replacing coincidentally? Just had a thought, haven’t tried plugging the red wire to the 6V side. Maybe I’ll try that next.

Also, I’ve searched this thread and couldn't see if anyone came up with a solution to the backup camera replacement. Natika or is everyone just dealing with it? I see there are some OEM type aftermarket replacements that plug into the harness at the tailgate but they are kinda pricey and I don’t know if they will really be an upgrade.

    Check your front camera ground.

I need to get back into the rear camera upgrade project but I’ve been juggling too many other ones.

I have the 6600 and the Germes. I didn’t know how to connect it either and @svermilyea was a huge help telling me what to cut and where to connect (which it sounds like you did already). Maybe he can chime in?

It’s grounded to the factory grounding point under the hood. Maybe I should run that inside too?

Can you probe power and ground to confirm voltage?

Do any of you notice the touch screen is less than responsive with dry hands? I played around with the wt7600nex the other day at Best Buy and noticed the screen was rather unresponsive. I figured it was overly fingered and used or maybe my hands were too dry.:notsure:

I just went through this install with the Maestro RR2 and everything seems to be working except the mic. I tried the enfig tacoma mic and the provided Pioneer mic plugged inn the back of the headunit 2.5mm jack. Neither works when I'm using wired carplay (siri functions or calls). Any ideas?

My first thought would be a bad 3.5-2.5mm adapter. I would purchase one of Amazon and try that first.

I could be wrong, but I think I read that that there are bugs/issues with the RR2. Crutchfield suggests the RR instead of the 2 when buying HU’s. Comparing the two, you’re only gaining wireless connection with the RR2 and not worth the price to me imo.

+1 to troubleshoot with the simpler, cheaper route first.

It actually ended up being the headunit. I replaced it with a new condition as the one having issues was factory refurb.

Has anyone who has installed an aftermarket front camera been able to get the the steering wheels controls to activate the camera? I tried flashing my Maestro and it works for the rear cam, but front cam is flaky. This is without the germes unit.

After much frustration I got a new Natika camera and harness. I tried just replacing the camera hoping it was that, the easiest solution. Nope, didn’t work. So I plugged the new camera and new wiring harness into my Germes. Also didn’t work. Wth? When I plugged in the old camera into the new harness it worked. Turned out the new camera and old wiring harness didn’t work. So I had to redo all the wiring to behind the radio and now it works as it should. Took way too long since I’m kinda OCD about my wiring under the hood but it’s all good now. Very coincidental that it worked before I replaced the radio then stopped working immediately after.

In an attempt to avoid reading the entire previous 88 pages of the this thread, is anyone able to help me answer a few questions about this head unit:
    1. Does this head unit allow for the continued operation of our trucks OEM camera system?
    2. Will the OEM camera system stay working the same as stock? (Ie: reversing and the backup/360 birds eye activated, front camera push button)
    3. Does this unit have wireless apple car play?
    4. Do all the steering wheel controls stay working the same?
    5. Do you have to purchase a separate bezel trim for the larger screen? Doesn't look like it, just wanna confirm
    6. Is there any type of built in anytime front/rear camera work arounds incorporated into the head units software?

Appreciate anyone taking the time to read over and help answer any of my questions. Thanks guy!

Do you know how to search a thread? In the search there is an option for “this thread only”.
