Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

The worm gear clamps work fine, just push the boot down on the axle

Iv had the same issue with passenger side worm gear hitting the shock bolt. And no matter how hard I tighten it it still slides up and starts hitting the shock bolt. And both outer small clamps always come ever so slightly loose and cover everything in grease over time. It’s actually completely turned me off from cv’s. I’m very motivated to go to a Dana 44 spindle with a u joint and part time hubs. Also I have steering stops on and that area where it rubs is actually dented in and looks terrible. I don’t ever recall hitting full lock hard but it must have been at full lock and the tire was forced in more.

 

Is the area between the boot and axle clean? Capillary effect! If its not clean, it'll seep. This is a maintenance/monitoring issue. Forgetting to check your shit leads to surprises. I know too well. The hose-clamps on mine like to move around. I have forgotten to check them a few times and after cleaning it up/repacking, I don't forget anymore. Moly grease...you can paint a house with a thimble-full.

 

Hey can anyone here with a double cab short bed do me a huge favor? after cutting everything off my rear i realized i never measured center of my axle to a known point on the frame... Seeing if theres anyone that can get a decent estimate of measurment from the rectangular hole in the frame forward of the front leaf mount to the centerline of the rear axle at ride height?


Thats the spot i'm trying to reference from. I'm sure i'll figure it out one way or the other but would be nice to have a baseline to start from...

 

I’m long bed, couldn’t you do a full wheelbase measurement from the front, then back track to your reference?

 

.....probably....lmao but thats assuming my fronts are squared up.... haven't done an alignment since long before i did the jd mounts.

 

If the boots are sliding on the shaft it's because grease was on the sealing surface of the boot. A quick shot of brake clean on the axle before sliding the boot down will make the boot stick in place pretty good, almost to the point it seems to be glued down. Over greasing the birf can also be a culprit of grease pushing out of the boots.

 

I stumbled across this for a first gen, IDK where it originated from. But the version for your truck would be perfect.

That’s wild. If it’s on the stops how is that even possible?

 

I don't have steering stops anymore (cut off per LT install instructions) but the inner clevis bottoms out on the rack, creating a hard stopping point so I basically have a steering stop for all intents and purposes.

And IDK man, it's impressive that it happened again.

 

Right but I’m assuming that’s full lock in this picture. That’s a wild amount of deflection either way. I just question where it’s coming from.

If I were you I would notch the tab out where it’s hitting.

 

Yep that’s full lock so it’s sitting on “stops” but I just wanted to clarify I still have a hard stopping point even without steering stops on. And yeah, I notched out the tab a bit and will go from there.

Yeah, full droop full lock, that’s the only time it’s happened, which has been three times now.

 

Sounds like it’s time for some delrin rack bushings

 

If it happens again I’ll probably just throw the whole truck away and start over.

But in reality, I’m sure I’ll need to replace the seals in the rack from not so great boots so I’ll do it then.
