Hey guys so I have the infamous red blinking light on my 2007 sr5 and I’ve been trying to diagnose it. Been using the amazing guide https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/a-c-light-blinking-troubleshooting-guide.440200/ and after checking of most on the steps I went to look at my clutch assembly because it wasn't engaging and noticed it looked different from what I've seen.

Hopefully you can see in the picture but it looks like the front plate is missing. Not sure if I'm totally out to lunch here and its supposed to look like that but any info would be helpful.

Looks like it is gone! You are missing the pressure plate and attaching pieces such as bolts and shims.

Ok great thanks! I wonder how that could have come off?? I’ve only had the truck for 6 months now maybe the previous owner was messing with it.

Compressor may have seized up and snapped the plate off

Or the nut backed off, can't tell from the pic

if the compressor is seized the pulley wouldn't spin correct? when its running pulley is working fine clutch just won't engage

The PO may have removed it to keep from engaging and seizing up the serp belt.

The pulley free-spins whenever the engine is running. The magnetic plate is connected to the compressor internals by a driveshaft. When the compressor is commanded to engage a big magnet pulls the plate toward the pulley and then locks them together magnetically.

Compressors can fail multiple ways. Sometimes the free-spinning pulley seizes up, sometimes the compressor internals seize up, sometimes the big magnet shorts itself out and gets smoked..

In your case it looks like the plate disappeared for whatever reason. You can order the mag clutch assembly with a pulley/plate/magnet.. but if the compressor is seized internally it will need a whole new compressor assembly

I just ordered the New compressor thanks, everyone! Also a shot in the dark but for the new seals, I found Washer Seal - Toyota (90210-A0004) is that all that's needed?
