An old post but I thought I’d add to it. Hit the U joint with PB Balster and all is good. Power steering fluid was low so I added. Still jerky in turning. PB blaster did the trick. I’m guessing I’ll have to hit it from time to time. Thanks for the info above fellas!

I had a power steering pump completely fail in a previous vehicle. I drove it around for 6 months like that before being convinced to replace it.

When your vehicle is actively moving, you don't need power steering. You only need it when your vehicle is moving very very slowly (or not at all). I only noticed it when I was parking the vehicle.
So even if your power steering pump was having problems, you wouldn't notice it when driving around. If you do it's likely to be issues with the steering itself.

So just to give you piece of mind. It's not likely to be the pump.

Started having this problem myself recently. I am also getting a whine which i believe is the pump failing. is there a better option for the PS pump than OEM?

The BBB OEM reman pumps are said to be good, according to the likes of South Main Auto and EricTheCarGuy. Avoid Cardone if you can.

The PB is a diagnostic tool here, not the fix.
