Rate my audio before I buy

I originally wanted no part in cutting into the OE harness, but thanks to @DirtyGovnuh linking

this, I can make my own T harness.

I was also going to go the OEM Audio+ route for the simplest and most convenient route, but it feels like $600 for speakers and $1,000 for a PnP harness.

I’ll soon have a 22 non JBL “premium”. I want to keep the stock HU and have no desire to add a sub.

I am a novice when it comes to types of speakers, but comfortable with splicing, pulling panels apart, etc. I will be adding some sound deadening to the area of the door behind the speakers and speaker mounting area.

All advice is welcome. If you think there are better speaker sets I should go with, let me know. A different amp? go for it. Am I missing any parts? I'm ok with spending up to $700.

The tweeters will work with the included metra adapters that Crutchfield provides with the 6x9 components, but you'll have to cut holes in the metra brackets. You might match the rear 6 3/4 with the csc fronts instead of those dsc's, but I don't think there's much difference.

Funny those same kickers 6x9 components were recommended to me by one of their reps as I'm using the 200.4 key as well with a similar budget plan (or so I thought, closer to 1k now with soundskins deadening) They said that set provided the most bass at the price point. For a $700 budget with the key amp your speaker options are limited. Buy the best components you can afford that will pair well with the key. That's the bulk of your sound.

I've heard the OEM Audio sets are nice, but your paying extra for plug and play. I looked at the JL JD400/4 amp for 279, but figured the dsp on the kicker would help the most with the factory head unit.

Reason for mixed brands is I originally planned on doing Focal flax, but didn't want to pay that much. Also, I ordered the front CDT's with the plan of BI-AMPing them, but decided to do the rear doors last minute anyway. Focal's were slightly cheaper than CDT's cl-6ex for the rear doors. Plus, Crutchfield included the adapters and brackets and the Focal's were rated at 60 rms vs CDT's 90 rms.

Hopefully the key pumps enough juice for the front CDT widebands.

 

Those kicker CS are not my ideal choice so make sure you’ve listened to them before buying them. The titanium dome tweeter is HARSH. Legitimately gives me a headache, even at low volumes

Listen before you buy. The materials used in the tweeter cone have a big impact on the sound. One isn't necessarily better or worse...it is a preference thing. I prefer silk tweeters which are available in the Kicker KS series.

 

If I remember correctly Killmat has issues with heat tolerance. Might be better off with something like Noico - lots of folks here like it.
