Hey all - first time poster here. Recently got a 2013 LBDC WITH 80k miles on it and thought I’d put some nice aftermarket wheels. Got some 16” wheels and was feeling pretty jazzed. Lo and behold, the studs were too short when I took the truck in to VIP to have the wheels swapped, but they didn’t realize until they’d swapped my tires over on all 4 and had them back up on the truck. Apparently they could juuuust barely get the threads to catch. So I begrudgingly paid the $150 for their labor and drove away 7 hours later with my stock wheels back on

after doing some digging and reading the posts on here about lug nuts and studs for aftermarket wheels, I looked at the nuts the guy at the custom auto parts store gave me, and they are just a normal conical shape. Would the .25 inches of the extended thread lugs be enough do you think? My other options are to either bite the bullet and get the studs replaced ($$$$) or return the wheels and restart my hunt for wheels that might be compatible with my studs as they stand now. Luckily my dealer said he’d make it right and take the wheels back if I go that route since he assured me in my noobish state that they’d fit perfectly.

here are the nuts that I have now for reference.

My vote is wheels that are the right specs.

Conical or flat face lugs are determined by the lug matting surface on the wheel, not stud length

They make a conical seat lug with an extended “snout” that would work.

Yeah I get that, I just don’t know if that extra .25” of extension under the conical seat is sufficient. Any suggestions on how to know if other wheels would be spec’d properly for my current studs?

That’s what I was thinking - I’ve seen them with .25” of extra length down under the seat that helps fit inside the bore for the wheel - I just don’t know if that would be enough length

    Welcome,

Those don’t look right to me. Definitely not an expert on those, but when I put the a/m rims on my ‘21 the lugs were longer and not as fat. They were able to go deeper into the openings in the wheel. Those look like they would not screw all the way down into the pocket. Not sure if that is what is happening to you, or do you not have enough thread showing thru after you put the rim on?

    these are similar to mine

no there’s hardly any thread for the nut to grab, which is why I thought the extended ones that might extend into the bore might help with that

Thats a half inch of extra threads. Do your wheels even use conical lugs?

Haha! And which won’t fit, the wheel or the nut? I’m super new to this so I’ve just gone off of what the auto parts store owner told me and assumed he knew… but assume makes an ass out of u and me so ‍♂️

I believe so, based on what I was given at the shop and it looks like the holes have a conical opening

Do you have a part # for the exact wheel you purchase. Maybe we can figure it out

Yeah you need different lug nuts. Like you linked above w/ the .5” behind the seat. But measure first. Can’t have that extension be of equal or longer length than the wheel’s bore depth behind the taper.

The guys at that shop also seem really unqualified for the job based on your first post. You always check fitment as early as possible. Did they just not have other lug nuts in stock??
You can get them and ask the shop to do it again at no charge but that said I’d be hesitant to let those guys touch my truck again. Wheels and tires are kinda critical…
