See a lot of good info on the tow packages but noting for non tow packages. Does the sr have that connector in cab? Or is that just for tow package? If not, has anyone wired up trailer brakes on an sr non tow package? Thanks!

If 2.7L, it is doubtful that you have the connector.
If you don't have that connector, then DIY the round 7 pin, using the current flat 4 as part of the final wiring to the round 7 pin.

It's kinda standard for any vehicle, you need to wire in a trailer brake controller, then you can either wire in the 7 pin or use a 7 to 4 pin adapter at the rear.

Typically anything that is 7 pin is too heavy for a 4 cylinder tacoma, I believe they are only rated for 3500lbs max.

Better quality lightweight (under 2000 pounds) camping trailers often come standard with electric brakes standard. Coleman/Fleetwood trailers came with electric brakes standard regardless of the trailer weight.
