I did mine a few weeks ago and pulled the overflow plug at 115 and everything seems fine. FWIW

I pulled out my Haynes manual, it covers 05-09; it says ATF temp should be 97-115.

Thank you, so it may be safe to assume that the 2011 is in fact 115-130

that is very interesting, seeing as how in my 2015 its basically the same thing. Maybe my UG is right after all.

I can't say as I don't have that year manual. The OP for this thread has an 05 and he wrote 115-130. I am wondering if Toyota changed the temp readings. I looked for a TSB and haven't found one. My Hayes manual was published in 2009. Funny thing: I wrote 115-130 on the inside page of the manual!

My brothers 2010 Tacoma and my moms 2016 4Runner use the same codes for the UG. My IR temp gun shows similar temps to the UG. The IR reading in the pic with the UG is in the 16 4Runner.

is the hex plug, overflow/check plug part number 90341-10021? One of the toyota parts websites says it's not compatible with my 2011 4.0 4x4. I think it's the right part. Thank you for confirming.

The parts site I checked says that check level plug for the A750F 5-speed auto is for Tacomas manufactured from 09/2011 and beyond.
What date is on your driver door frame near the rear? This is the sticker I'm looking for (don't read into the details on this one too closely, it's from a 1st gen tacoma with a different transmission).

That part number looks correct. I guess they just split the parts compatibility date ranges between the 2.0 2nd gen (2005-2011) and the 2.5 2nd gen (2012-2015).

Don't forget to get replacement "gaskets": 35178-30010
Same part number for the check plug as the drain plug.

I'm curious how much "off" will the level be if it was 145°F when I checked it? It was that temp after only a couple minutes of idling when I checked it.

@Irish_Texan I’m going to guesstimate, about half a quart. Did any ATF come out when you checked at 145? ATF expands as it heats up. Thus, checking the ATF level when its over the temp range will remove too much ATF. And if no ATF drains out when you check over the temp range, you need to add about a quart, then recheck after giving the ATF time to cool down.

Yeah, there was a little that came out, I'd guess maybe half a cup or so, maybe a little more, then it went to the slight drip as suggested it should.

Just to clear up the confusion on what temperature to check the fluid at, following another thread led some of us to do some research and it seems Toyota changed the temperature specification somewhere around 09 and issued a service bulletin #T-SB-0129-08 for all earlier models instructing techs to use the updated temperatures.
For Tacoma's with the A750 transmission the revised temperature range is 97-115F (36-46C).

Did three drain and fills at 85k. Good thing I found this site! Thank you. First drain came out black with a tint of purple? Fingers crossed.
