Fumoto valve was loose when I changed oil today

I went to change my oil today and found my Fumoto valve was loose. Took two full turns to retighten... When I installed it, I tightened to a bit past hand-tightened. Today, I retightened as much as I could with a set of channel-locks. This is the third oil change since I installed it, it's never been loose before.

Not sure how I feel about this. I love the convenience of this valve given I have RCI skid plates. Accessing the Fumoto is hard enough with these skids, a normal drain plug just results in a messy, shitty, PITA.

Is there a way to torque these things? I'm considering some Loctite on my next oil change, will be under the truck regularly to check before then.

Has anyone had this happen before? I can't imagine that thing coming off, draining all my oil and destroying my engine.

Mine has never loosened and I've had it on there for probably 5+ years. I'd just put some loctite on it like you were thinking.

I've had mine on there for going on 11 years never had to touch it. Perhaps the washer was degraded?

I'm guessing it wasn't tight enough. Mine has been on since 2015 with no issues.

Based on my experience to date, I would never change back to a drain plug. Oil changes are super easy and very clean, even with skid plates.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Definitely wasn't tightened enough. On both my fumoto and valvomax I tightened to what I felt was appropriate rather than following the instructions exactly.

Thanks all. I don't think the washer was degraded, at least I hope it's not, it's less than a year old.

I'll keep checking on it, as mentioned it probably just wasn't tightened enough. I cracked the fill port on the transfer case of last Tacoma by over-tightening, so I was probably a little too gentle with the fumoto.

It's just weird it made it through two previous oil changes without loosening at all, and then all the sudden loosened up <shrug>.
