First it was Elvis dying then a month later Lynyrd Skynyrd had their plane crash. I couldn't wait for the Street Survivors album to come out and got hold of the original album cover with the band members standing in flames. They removed that cover after the plane crash. Even to this day Skynyrd is still my favorite band.

I remember the moon landing, it was awesome. What strikes me now was my fathers reaction. He was born in 1918 and remembers the first car he saw, and then the landing on the moon, what a change.

Major prison riot in Jefferson City Mo. We could see the burning buildings from of the back of our home. This was in 1954. Back then I did not realize how close our home was to the Prison. Here is a link to a historical account of the riot: Historian, former inmate, troopers recall 1954 MO Penitentiary riot - Missourinet

Not sure about California & their smog/Clean Air Act, some gas stations stopped selling in early 70's while the rest of nation, drivers had to buy unleaded for cars made in 1975 with catalytic converters.

    Does this sound right?

    Yes, it does.
I recall regular gas being sold well into the 80's in NY Metro area... I am sure this station was selling it at the time this photo was taken, but the price is out of the photo's frame...

I work in the old Gibson building in Kalamazoo, came across this old picture. Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood taken in the early 70’s standing in front of a band saw I still use to this day.44C8D955-0129-47EE-B2A8-39FFB6EA2120.jpg

Did you warn the band to not stand in front of the band saw because they might get sawed?

One hell of a progress change!
My grandparents said the same thing, only they used the dramatic changes in aviation.
They saw the first flight by the Wright Brothers in 1903 to the moon landing in 1969.

(They were born in late 1890s. They didn't see either live and in person, but were alive when the events happened.)

Wow! I have a mahogany Gibson Jazz guitar from about 1969. It might’ve been made with the same saw.

My grandmother was alive to see Halley's Comet twice.

I never gave things like progress much thought until I tried to look at the world as it existed through my gammy's eyes... Getting old, and getting perspective helps, too.

Sometimes when I cut down a tree on my property I'm stunned. I count the rings backwards towards the centre and find the highlights. Like, here's when my daughter was born, I was born, WW2, WW1, Titanic sinking etc etc. I think the oldest tree would have been a twig during the war of 1812 (when Canada was still British and whupped the US's butt :)

So I don't remember when for all of them.

Geez, I hope that wasn't considered political! Edit the last sentence of first paragraph if it was.

I grew my nails for Austins wedding. I kept them long until 2 weeks ago. I realized long nails and my job don’t go together. Everything is so much easier without them!
