    Hey guys

I know this is probably beating a dead horse for some of you, but I am at a loss; I've read so many threads on here about lifting the Tacoma, my eyes are seeing double now.
My brother in law has a 2018 2wd and had the dealer install a lift right after he bought it, referring to it as a 3/2 lift, his truck looks pretty good in height. I inquired recently about having the OEM lift installed (called 3 dealers local to me / South Louisiana) and all 3 have stated they do not install them on the 22's as they are having issues recalibrating the TSS or whatever. I call BS, but it is what it is. I do not do any hardcore offroad as there is none around here, will be light. I do however pull a 22' boat with a tongue weight of 400 - 600 lbs. I added sumos to help with the squat, but, I am looking to better the suspension / increase the tire size and all around have a better equipped truck. I do not, but will entertain dealing with the UCA's if need be, but am interested in a similar "3/2" lift as the broinlaw has, albeit, his appears to be a front spacer and a rear block, I do not want to go this route as so many on here are against.
Please, please, please, help a fella out and advise best route with a $2000, maybe a little more budget..
    Thanks

The typical (but pretty solid) setup is usually Bilstein 5100s with either stock springs or aftermarket (usually Old Man Emu) with an add-a-leaf.

I personally have 5100s with OME 888 springs and a Deaver 2" add-a-leaf. Absolutely love it.

The step up from that would be a Bilstein 6112/5160 setup. For towing a boat, sumo springs are great, if you want better performance while towing you might benefit from a full leaf pack.

    Just my .02

    3/2 is

    3” lift front
    2” lift in rear

That pretty much puts the truck level.
Any weight on the back, like your boat, will have you squatting in the rear.

I say stick to 2.5” or less of lift. Unless you want to buy UCA to achieve a decent alignment.

I plow snow in winter and haul or tow 23’boat/trailer in summer.
I went with Bilstein 5100’s , as well as Timbren SES on all 4 corners. Front shock settings are 2”, rear has a 1” Eibach block. So 2/1 lift/level. Ive had no reason to change springs in front, or use different leaf-packs in the rear. If my needs change I can always go higher/add more leaves.

I do 95% on road driving, 5% mild off road. No issues with TSS, or needle bearing ,Ive had this for 12 mos so far on my ‘21 Sport. Also had an identical setup on my ‘09 OR . That lift gave me 10 years of trouble free operation when I sold the truck.

For $2000, the best option in my opinion would be the bilstein 6112/5160 combo and a heavy leaf pack in the rear. I would say medium, but it’s not enough. I have a camper shell and 2 dogs in the back and it’s already feeling that weight.
I have the ome rear leaf pack. Lot of people don’t like them, but I’m not sure why. I bought mine $400 used on Craigslist

Another great choice is Icon Vehicle Dynamics lifts, you can get a stage 1 or 2 for around $2000 give or take a few bucks.

The only thing to also consider is the valving of the shocks. Wish I did my research…..the bilstein and icon and digressive valving which are more firm for daily driving. Fox and kings are progressive.

How does lifting the truck affect the front back and side cameras?

There is a sensor in the front grill in the tacomas. It monitors the cars in front of the truck. It is supposed to be at a certain height. Once you lift the truck, you have to recalibrate it.

No. You need the dealer to re program it
