Looking for inspiration and recommendations to increase weather proof storage capacity.

5' bed with factory tonneau (hard trifold) and low Billie bars.

Situation: Looking to add storage *on top* of the Billie bars that will keep sleeping bags, clothing, and other soft goods dry on the drive up to camp. Cab is usually full (humans and dogs), and the coolers don't fit under the tonneau, meaning everything is in bins, but exposed to weather, and space is getting really limited, requiring time consuming tetris!!

I had planned to buy a ski cargo box for on top of the bars and dual purpose it in the summer, but I feel like there have to be some other (less expensive) creative options that may be better overall for the use?

No plans for a RTT, but would love a storage box that is roughly that shape/size (not protruding past the bed or over the cab). Anyone have success with soft cargo bags, without a vehicle roof directly underneath?

Theft is a lower concern generally, but never not a concern.

This is what I do. I got a skinny basket, it fits 4 small sized plano trunks.

    Here is what to do...
Buy a big dry bag. A few hundred dollars. Cut a piece of 3/4 plywood to fit on top of bars but inside that bag. Put your stuff on top of wood in the bag and strap it down.

20211227_125253.jpg 20210813_184845.jpgi know its not your described situation but i like the hitch cargo rack. It definitely helps with storage and you can use a locking truck tool box on it if needed and bolt it on. It stays on my truck all the time. An added security for my tailgate lol good for things too heavy and awkward to put on my roof rack. Or out collecting firewood for camping. The decked sytem is a cool setup.too.
