No surprise but the stock speakers are just terrible. I'm far from considering myself an audiophile but could use some better quality. I'd like to open up my doors to put in some sound deadening to make the doors feel a little more solid and figured I'd replace the speakers while I was at it. My friend, whose paid thousands of dollars for professional stereo installs, feels I really need to also install an amp but I just don't want the added expense or the added hassle of wiring and placement and tuning and whatever else would come along with an amp install.

I've been looking at some speaker options on Crutchfield and would most likely purchase whatever is in my budget with good reviews, likely Kicker. Will I have an appreciable increase in quality with aftermarket speakers alone?

The #1 question you need to ask yourself is, “Am I going to replace the headunit?” If the answer is no, then any speaker upgrade you make will be marginal at best.
