Thanks for the replies - yea the shocks don't look good. As for above the driver's side one, need to look at that closer. Given how they look I'd expect the ride not to be good, but it is. At least IMO, better than my 2002 Silverado.

It's a 4 cyl, 4WD, M/T. Exactly what I was looking for - and very hard to find. Heck any used Gen 2 Tacoma under about $15k is almost impossible to find in these parts unless it has over 200k miles. Given how fortunate I feel to have found this at the price it was, I'll expect some flaws and repairs needed.

Checked that driver's side shock - it's as bad as it looks. I can't believe I missed it when I checked out the truck before calling it a deal last weekend. Still would have bought it though.

Re: oil - I bought 2 quarts of 5W-20, have a leftover 0W-20 from my former vehicle. I see the oil cap and manual specifies both. It was about a quart low. The dealer claims the oil & filter were changed. Haven't looked at the filter yet. Makes me wonder. The oil looked new on the dipstick though. I put it a quart of 5W-20. In winter is 0W-20 the better choice?
