Made my first trip into the Pine Barrens to give Belle a chance to get out of the house. Lots of big ruts and deep puddles. Certainly not my normal style, crunched through a few frozen sections in 12” of water.

    6DE7C369-315F-461D-B9EB-BCC12563CA7D.jpg 6A4C7E76-FF0F-4157-967B-CE83C99A1FC9.jpg A814088A-7441-45D7-B4CF-1A95611BE4EA.jpg 47B97D1A-00BD-4C73-9601-C321143AFC0E.jpg

Unfortunately while looking at my suspension out there I noticed one of the rear bump stops ripped off. This is the second failure I’ve had of these, the first was a partial separation after 6 months and both sides were replaced under warranty, now 3 years later the entire soft section disappeared, not sure when it disappeared, been a while since I’ve climbed under there. I’ve also had a separation failure of Superbumps so I’ll be looking for something that isn’t molded together.

Glad you found a decent trail for Belle! Careful though, it'll take a while for us SoCal folks to organize a recovery that far away. :p

I’m quite happy with them, I bought them used and the previous owner had them properly painted which makes a huge difference.

The extra space has kept my tires from rubbing, but I still need to figure out a good fender liner setup, that’s a new garage project. There are a few places where there is rubbing between the bumper and fender but that could be fixed if I cared to spend the time but I’m lazy. The install is a bit annoying as they aren’t a perfect bolt on but once you get them on there isn’t much aftercare.

Slowly getting settled in the Jersey spot, did my first oil change today, same one beer job with the 4.0 and fumoto valve but super nice to be able to just dump the oil in the street now that I’m not in Cali.

The garage is cleaned out at the new spot but it’s a tight fit, trying to decide if I should use lube or just ram it in

Finally decided to deal with the bump stops, picked up a set from @ARCHIVE same high quality as all the other stuff, I have most of his lineup on the BRWNTRD at this point.

Working on rusty stuff sucks, I’ve owned a Tacoma for almost 10 years now but the first 9 were in places where rust isn’t an issue. I just spent 3 hours fighting 2 ubolts and have 2 more to go. Apparently I need to invest in some PB Blaster and plan my maintenance days.

The rusty driver’s side, that also is missing a bump stop to match the passenger.

The Steelers themed new passenger side that went on in an 8th of the time it took to remove the old.

They look really good! I am going to order some, hopefully by the end of the summer. Have some other projects that are on the front burners.

PB Blaster and anti-seize will be your friend

Today in the adventures of the BRWNTRD, we play with deep water, poor planning, bad cell service and improper use of the buttons.

    EAC69047-72E3-4B3E-B44C-CCD8BA26C737.jpg B398BD4E-D233-4A7D-ABB7-A4B63F8BE01F.jpg C1DB162E-9878-4A89-80EE-52B9C04C2DDB.jpg 6B9CED0C-E852-41B4-907F-B3DDB1F06906.jpg EF407537-BBBA-4AD2-9A34-0023125C6BD8.jpg

For future reference for the uninitiated
    • 4WD works better when you engage it before you enter the mud hole.
    • Lockers are more effective when they are connected to a power source.
    • It is prudent to correct these situations before you apply a little juice in a sandy puddle.
    • Traction boards don’t provide as much assistance when they are stored in your garage rather than your enclosed lockable truck bed.
    • Winches look cool on the front of your truck but most experts would agree you should install the solenoid to a power source.
    • Neatly packed bags of recovery gear are an excellent way to keep the needed gear properly organized, but they shouldn’t be left at home while you adventure.
Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Since I didn’t learn the first time I played this game, and even read these before I went swimming I’ll repost here

The 6 Commandments of doing dumb shit.

I broke 5 of those rules, but I have realized than none is more important than #5.

    The current situation

Interior pulled, need to unplug and clean connectors in the front foot wells, gonna just reinstall the drivers seat while the carpet dries since I need to rinse it out.

Need to pull the wheels and check all the electrical plugs that got a bath yesterday.

Will dig around for the vinyl floor replacement thread, between my poor choices and dog hair I’m not sure I should keep the carpet in.
