I didn't know there was a lake up there. I mean, I've only ever been through there like once so there's tons I don't know, but I was not expecting a lake sitting in the middle up there. Have you gone riding through there? Do they open more of the roads later in season or are they always blocked?

Are you talking about snowmobile trails or the State Forest Roads?
Do they even let you 4 wheel on the Snowmobile Trails?
It's not something I was ever interested in.

    Anyway, to orient ourselves...

You go north on High Rock Road (dirt logging road) until the paved Cold Springs Road.
Go left a short distance and you can turn right to continue north on Three Springs Road (another dirt road).
Or go right on Cold Springs, go a little way, and turn left to continue north on Teaberry Road (dirt).

Either way, you'll come out on Newman Road next to Carbaugh Run Lake.
I guess that's where you mean.

I've hunted for Grouse there a few times, but it's a little far from my house.
Considering the fact that I can be on Rattlesnake Run road in a few minutes from here.
There's a whole lotta forest between me and Carbaugh Run.
Michaux looks small on the map compared to many State or National Forests...until you get well stuck in away from the roads.

AFAIK, they don't close the dirt /gravel State Forest Roads unless they're blocked somehow.
Gotta keep those logging trucks rolling.
Mostly they log Oaks, and believe me, there are plenty to spare, and they log selectively.
Which opens things up a little for the second growth that Grouse like.

    Irises in bloom.
The Roses are just starting to open up (not in this picture).
Clematis vines are climbing up the sides of the arbor...it'll be awhile yet before they bloom.

Not sure if you know her bio.....

Maizy aka Crazy Maizy, aka Maiz, aka Maizy May (my family on my Moms side is May). She's a 5.5 yr old, Beagle/GSD mix, and all Lady. Maizy's Mom & Dad could no longer keep her and even though she was raised from a pup, they had to give her up. We were already searching for a sister for Phoenix and the hit it off immediately. They are wonderful together.

    20220506_180703.jpg

And of course, our first gurl Phoenix. Ohhhh Phoenix. She is a 2.5 year old spitfire! Pure love in a fur body. She was our first, and a rescue. We were graced with her and she has proven to be a blessing. She's a Black Mouth Cur/Amercan PitBull Terrier mix, and she is my baby!

So I apologize for my absence but I truly think of Y'all's all the time!
