With the bigger tires and KC roof rack, my gas mileage dropped significantly so I've been wanting the option of carrying a few extra gallons of gas when in the woods. I had a few minutes so I decided to mount the Wavian front loading Jerry can holders and took some pictures. This is fairly simple to figure out, but the part numbers are here if anyone needs them.

I ordered some generic stainless T-nuts on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TYLVYPX) and used a couple for this. Also purchased from McMaster some ultra-low profile socket head cap screws l, 3/8-16x3/4 lg (https://www.mcmaster.com/91223A229).

As received, two front loading Wavian holders - confirmed to work on the NOS surplus jerry cans from Coleman's.

After lining up and measuring, I popped two holes in the back plate with a 7/16 step bit. 2-3/4" from the top and 2" in on each side. This takes into account the can holder sitting on the bed mat.

Critical step - apply anti-seize for any stainless-stainless connection to prevent galling.

After confirming the holes lined up, I took a cheap 1/2" HDPE cutting board (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076G1797P) and used it as a spacer for the debossed holes lower on the back plate. Cut dimensions ended up at 2-3/4" width by 8-1/2" length.

Drilled a few 3/16" holes for #14 coarse thread stainless screws I had from another project. Had to take the point off with the grinder to ensure they didn't protrude.

When tightened to the bed rail, the top rubber bumpers on the can holder are pushed out slightly and provide additional clearance for the socket heads - plenty of clearance.

Jerry can sprayed with some gray enamel and hardener from Ace. Finish is alright but the Wavian holder has a few spots that still rub - nothing to worry about for a 1952 gas can though.

    Hope it helped!

A few weeks after I got this mounted I put a camper shell on which changed all my distances. Time to redo the mount with some spacers to account for the fiberglass lip.
