Hello all, I have a 2021 SR5 Tacoma Nightshade Edition, and I am looking to do a 3” front 2” rear lift, looking at the Ready lift with preloaded spacer, as well I currently have 265/75/R16 wrangler duratrac setup and was wondering if it possible that 285’s will for my 16 inch wheel. As well with the lift will that be high enough to avoid rubbing and trimming. Or will 265’s look rugged enough. Also just for a little more info, I’m not looking to do much off reading with it, just want to add an aggressive look
    Thank you in advance.

That lift should be fine for 285's, as a lot of folks on here will tell you, that for some reason, each Tacoma has its own individual identity as to how big a tire will cause rubbing. I've had too many tacomas to count to not be embarrassed. I absolutely love each generation, and the " Pickup" before the Tacoma.
I say go with the 285's with the most aggressive pattern that makes you happy. If you're not happy with the rubbing, deal with that after they're on.
I love to mod these trucks, and have yet to have a problem that can't be delt with. This forum is a fantastic place with a LOT of knowledge, and folks more than willing to help!!

First off, thank you for your replay and guidance, will a 285 fit my 16 inch wheel, and what are your thoughts on the ready lift 3F 2R with preload spacer?

    The r16 means it's for a 16 inch wheel

If the tire your getting is for 16 inch wheel, yes it does. For example, mine is 285 75R/16. My wheels are stock.

Any tire will on that wheel as long as it's a 16. The "16" in the 265/75/R16, designates the wheel diameter. Any tire with a "16" in that space of the description will fit that wheel. So yes, that tire will fit that wheel. Some folks will say that a 285 is a little wide for your wheel which should be 7 1/2" inches wide, but there are probably a 1000 folks on here running that combination.
As far as the ready lift, it will get the job done, and will look fantastic, and it that's what fits your budget, he'll yeah, it's great.
If you want to move up one day to a suspension, instead of a lift, you can do that, but if you're looking to just make your truck look great, fantastic choice.
Again, some folks on here will say that a ready lift sucks because of blah, blah, blah, screw them it's not your truck, and they're not paying for your mods.
Ready lift, is just that, a lift. Get it and enjoy the shit out of it.
One day if you feel like you want to move up go ahead and do it.
Some folks say buy once, cry once, and have the budget to lay out a plan and do it that way.
I've been on both sides of that coin. I actually had my plan for my Taco set even before I bought it. But Tacos I've had in the past were built bit by bit. I have no regrets either way.

    Just a heads up.

You're choosing form over function, which is fine, and the choice of many folks.

But if your MPG matters to you, it's about to get worse.

    Information to consider. Or ignore.

I have 285/75R16s on 16" wheels with -12 offset and my lift includes a 3" block in the front and 1.5-2" add-a-leaf in the rear. It's also 2wd and a Sport. I had to move the camber up in the front when it was aligned (Part of the alignment, no big deal) and trim the front air deflector (whatever you call it) just a bit to keep them from rubbing. I actually heated it up and bent it a hair at first but trimmed it later because it looks better. Of course you can just take it off like most do and not worry about it at all. No rubbing but it would a little if I did any serious off-roading, which I don't.

Thank you! This has been a great help!!!!! I was afraid I was going to have to have to get larger wheels to accommodate the larger tires.

Agree on the form over function but he said it didn't matter.for.function he just wants looks. But why call out the MPGs only? Is a spacer lift worse on MPGs than a suspension lift or are you calling out/ linking it to the 3" lift?

    Lift and tires.

I dont care if he doesn't.

I just think it's fair that he knows to consider it.

Larger tires that weigh more = less MPG

    (unless you re-gear to compensate).
    - Not true, it’ll lower high RPMs from the bigger tires.

The lift, spacer style or otherwise, can induce more wind drag being higher up but that’s typically minimal.

Sorry I missed the 285s part I thought he was just going to 265/75/16 but he already there.

i agree but not a concern of his apparently.

OP solid advice from members that know. Do what you like but just don’t come back and complain in a few months after mods :anonymous:

That’s right, I misspoke. It’ll set your RPM back to normal with bigger tires.

Thank you everyone for all of your input, and advice, to be honest I am not that concerned about losing a few MGP’s to gain an aggressive look. Also I am glad to hear that I can fit 285’s on my 16 wheel set! I’m super stoaked and once the upgrade is completed I will upload some photos of the final product!!!
