Tacoma Prerunner 4x4 Conversion

They are all completely custom built, so the price will vary. I saw some that were like $10k, but I don't know how much cheaper it can be done.

Are there any additional parts needed if you use a donor truck? I've been looking for a donor truck but wondering if there is anything additional i will need. Seems like everything i will need will be in the donor truck

 

I've been tempted to buy a A750 locally with only 10k miles stupid cheap.
I'm 4x4 tho.
Can you just swap the tail housing and output shaft on the prerunner trans?
TC, valve body, pan and gear housing all look the same

This is exactly what I did after I bought my PreRunner in June and traded it in 3 weeks ago for my current.

Was quoted $10k for conversion from a shop in Cali. Thought, screw this, trade it in. I'm not a mechanic and I don't know anyone capable of performing this locally.

Yes you can do a tailshaft swap from 2 wheel drive and swap to 4x4 but you will also need the 4x4 tailshaft housing .
I suggest a transmission re-seal kit if you plan to go this way because you have to tear down the complete transmission

Thank you! Yes, I would have the tail housing from my current truck which is getting high in mileage and would just swap that over.

 

I wanna convert mine too. Not patient with tools and not a lot of time. Great job

anybody have a write up of the process need some links and parts i have the basic idea some extra details wouldn't hurt.

 

There are hundreds of write ups . Take a little time and go through this thread . Many members here have swapped out an output shaft from a 2 wheel drive to convert their 2 wheel drive transmission to a 4x4 transmission .

A lot of this applies to a third gen as well because you can use the same front diff, fj transfer case, etc.
