THIS! My neighbor has been riding his whole life and his wife just started at 50 something. It's cool having a neighbor who rides too that I can shoot the shit with about bikes despite our age differences. Since I have lived next to him I have seen him own a GS, a Boulevard M109R, a ZX14R (sense a pattern with those two?) and now he's got a Goldwing and a KLR650 Adventure. I watched him take her out every night to a parking lot to practice and then see them go on rides together. I even saw the first time she dropped her bike in the driveway. Awesome watching a new rider go through all the milestones lol

Ooof. Seeing any ligament pointing the wrong way is one of my worst fears.

The most inspirational thing I have ever seen on a bike was summer two years ago at Yankee’s Tavern. Young man walks out, throws a leg over a Softail, cranks up and rides off….. he had two prosthetic arms with hooks. The prosthetic arms started at his shoulders. I could not see any special rings or aids on the bike controls.

Thanks bud me too! This past month has been shitty but could have been worse.

Same, and prior to this I’d never broken a bone in my life. I remember thinking I hope it’s not me knee, thought dealing with joint issues would be more difficult than the femur which I stood on the day after surgery.

Pics of my cut up gear, which was returned in this biohazard bag. Alpinestars definitely saved my skin…

If this isn’t a ringing endorsement for not cheaping out on gear, I don’t know what would be. I literally pucker every time someone rides past me in a T-shirt and tennis shoes. Gear can’t do its job if you choose not to wear it. Glad to see that you chose to ride smart, and that you’re on the mend.

Glad you're ok. My high speed wreck over 10 years ago was a bad one, broke both arms and a leg, knee was pretty damaged as well. Had good gear also that saved me. Will always ride with Shoei and Astars. Hope you heal up quickly

This weekend I saw a guy in sandals, and his half helmet was pushed back so the strap was around his neck. When he would go through a town (I was following him for a while) he would slip the helmet back onto his head, then back out on the open road push it back

It always blows my mind how people feel comfortable riding around without proper gear.

When I clean my chain, I usually take a short ride to the end of the block, then back home without anything on. Since it's at night, I can see cars coming from a distance, and there's much less activity. Even then, I still feel extremely unsafe compared to any other times I ride with full gear, be it on the freeway at speed, lane splitting, etc. Feels naked and vulnerable.

25k on a modern, well maintained bike is nothing. Old airhead BMWs could easily top 100k with minimal upkeep and I've seen several approach 500k miles. Goldwings break 250k quite often and even HD had bikes that are capable of big numbers. My friend Chris has over 300k on a Sportster!

Just reading that makes me a little queasy! Glad you made it out without anything worse though!

I couldn't do it. Even on the hottest of summer days, just making a run to the grocery store to pick up something for dinner, I either gear up, or I take the truck and enjoy the AC. If I'm ever almost able convince myself that it's probably ok to not wear protective equipment because I'm just going out to run some mundane errand, that's a sign I'm making bad choices and shouldn't be on the bike.

My V4 suspension setup for track and jeezus at slow street riding the set up is horrible. Lol

As far as riding in full gear. I'm guilty of sometimes riding with only a hoodie, jeans, and
Alpine star Supertech r boots. In my defense, I'm a grandpa riding around the streets.
