Or he’d rather not have a million Monday morning TW quarterbacks tell him he got screwed on a deal he feels is fair.

OP paying anything at all towards a resolution is a loss (in my book), even if it means he gets a new truck (that he obviously needs to pay for) out of it. I think thats all anyone is debating. He didn't have any intentions of buying a new truck when he visited the dealership to have his oil changed. The entire ordeal costs OP money in the end, in the form of a new truck he didn't want.

My conclusion is the same. I dont blame people for making mistakes but i expect them to own the mistake and handle it. OP paying for a new truck because it was honestly the best outcome for the dealership doesnt restore my faith in dealerships. (if i had any to begin with)

I happy the OP is out of a truck he would be worried about everyday. But this is a win-win for the dealer. He is making money on both the new vehicle purchase and the eventual resale of the trade.

I think both statements can be true at the same time:

TW Defense - He doesn't want a million people telling him he got screwed
TW Offense- because he got screwed.

I'm just here for pics of the new truck at this point; OP's happy and is all that matters. We're just :deadhorse:

Depending on the difference paid in cash on the trade, I might prefer a new truck over a truck with a new engine installed, given the dealership’s track record so far. But you’re right, no matter what he’s been put through a ton of hassle.

One thing we haven’t thought about is whether there will be an impact from needing a new loan for the new truck and seeing a higher interest rate than he was paying on the old one. Unless somehow his old loan terms can be applied.

you're also forgetting georgia charges an Title Ad Valorem 7% tax on all new vehicles bought, this essentially covers the registration cost for the life of the vehicle (to the original owner) So he already paid that last year and will get hit with that again with the new car purchase.

I assume he’d only pay tax on the trade difference. But yeah that’s another cost of this debacle.

Well, if his used truck costs more than MSRP the state will have to refund him, winning!

There are lots of variables involved here. The dealership screwed up big time.
To be honest if the OP says the way it played out is fair to him to get a totally new truck from bumper to bumper.
Then who are any of use to say anything else except “ Glad it worked out for you”
I too am waiting for a picture of the new truck so we all can have closer

First Post On Tacoma World-New To Me Truck Acting Weird

Hi all! Well, I wish my first post on here was for a better reason but I bought a new Tacoma recently and I am hearing some strange noises from under the hood. I have attached a video (if I did it right) so everyone can listen to what it sounds like and tell me if it is normal. The dealership claims it is just the way a normal engine sounds but I am not sure. I have requested the history of the vehicle and it clearly shows that the truck had it's first oil change. I guess the previous owner didn't like the color or something since he traded it in on a different Tacoma right after that oil change. At least that is what they said. I have been wanting a Tacoma for a long time and I am excited about how reliable they are and how long the engines last on these trucks!

Anyways, if some of you more experienced owners can listen to the video and tell me if it sounds right I would appreciate it! I am so glad to be part of this forum!

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would guess that is the plan as that would put Toyota on the line for a new engine when all hell breaks loose on it. Or as soon as the new truck arrives and the deal is signed and official, I'd expect the old truck to be shipped off to an auction so this dealer will not have to deal with it.

how much profit would they lose out on if they shipped it off to auction?

Almost impossible to know as you would need to know what they value the truck at. The OP is reticent to reveal details about the deal, as is his prerogative, so we will not have any clues from that source. Plus I suspect the deal will be worked from the point of what the bottom line is to the OP, not on value of the trade. And the dealer can be quite obtuse when it comes to those details. It would be necessary to figure out what amount the dealer has actually valued the truck at and I am sure the dealer is not saying. But I doubt that they will lose any money on it. Dealerships do not stay around long if they do not make a profit. The history SHOULD follow this truck but it might be difficult to find out HOW the original work order was written up and if it has been edited since it was originally generated. If you were creative you could spin this so there was "Nothing to see here."

Repair Order: "The customer reports oil leaking from recent oil change. Vehicle inspected and defective o ring found. New O ring installed, oil filled, no leaks. Engine tested and performs with in normal tolerances and standards."

Edit: Overheard on the showroom floor....."No, unfortunately we do not have any new Tacomas in stock and the ones we have allocated are spoken for. You are looking at a 3 to 4 month wait. But we do have a 2022 recently traded in with only 7,000 miles. Very lightly used...."

The point is not for us to say “glad it worked out”. If anyone is not happy that the OP is happy, they can stuff it.
The whole point of a forum is to exchange information. This thread began with a lot of promise, as it had the potential to inform the rest us on how to handle this sort of situation and what to expect. At this point in time, there is no gain in information. It is a pointless thread.
As to the issue of the OP not wanting to reveal the outcome and be subject to countless opinions on his situation; that ship sailed after his first post.
