How difficult are the u joints on my 07 Tacoma PreRunner.

 

Not difficult at all. All you have to do is make just make sure you mark how everything was aligned and use spicer u-joints.

 

Bench vice and a ball joint press and a good hammer. Be careful not to bend the ears. U-joints are my kryptonite though. If you're mechanically inclined shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Watch plenty of videos before tackling it. They aren't hard they're just finicky sometimes.

 

And if you have a center bearing, consider replacing it also. It will be on four-door and extended cab models. A vote, here, for non-greaseable u-joints.

 

Definitely on the non-greaseables if you are the type of person that likes to set it and forget it. They come with stronger seals so that the grease doesn't escape as easily or let dirt in.

Here are the part numbers on the ujoints and bearing. Get them in rockauto or in summitracing. They sell the exact same ones as the OEM from the dealership but cheaper.

Dana 51330x for non-greasable
Dana 513301x for greasable
Dana 5002334

Also get an extra set of retaining clips as sometimes the thinnest clip that comes with the packaging is too thick and cause the clip to bulge out. Which could lead to premature failure. I got these from Amazon as they were thinner.

Chock the front and/or rear wheels.
When you disconnect the driveshaft, the truck is free to roll.

I just put mine up on jack stands. It allowed me to put my truck on neutral to spin the shaft.
