Battery indicator still lit after alternator replacement.

battery is 4 months old @ 12.6v when the car is off. When turned on battery reads 12.3v.

The day I replaced the alternator the indicator went off. Following morning the battery indicator lit up, turned off after I stopped by a gas station on my way to work, remained off for the rest of the day.

2nd day with the new alternator the light turned on and only turns off when I gas the engine around 2.5k RPMS, momentarily. Will light back on a couple seconds after hitting 2.5k rpm’s.

When on that battery should read in the 14’s while truck is running

Sounds like possibly a defective alternator, have your checked all the connections?

2nd gens will run anywhere between about 13.2 and 14.3 depending on temperature.

Agree, it sounds like a defective alternator. That was just how my original one acted as it was failing... intermittently working OK, and then not working (confirmed by ScanGauge 2 voltmeter) and throwing the battery light. Where did you get it? I'd go with an OEM replacement, even if the one you have now has some sort of warranty. They are remans, but with Toyota QC, in theory. Bottom line is, how many times do you want to do this job?

i bought one from advanced auto. I always have a bad feeling not shopping OEM and I hope this is the issue in this case.

Look for a Denso reman. Or call the toyota dealer and see if they have a reman

For Toyota OEM, which is Denso reman, best to go through the official Toyota parts gateway and select a participating dealer (not all of them play) near you for their discount price. Prices this way are usually comparable to Toyota Parts Deal, especially when considering shipping. And you can usually pick them up same or next day. At my dealer the retail counter price is higher and they will not give you that discount unless you do the transaction online.

Go to the auto parts store and ask if they have a Denso remanufactured alternator. If not then go to the dealership. Never get the auto parts brand.
