1000% this!! When you are out in the backcountry, it can be tough to find a good spot free of vegetation or rocks. @mjamberg Where you plan on doing most of your trips? That may help some of your planning.

I’m of the opinion that the best way to learn what mods you really need is to drive the truck stock for a while first. Like @Rock Lobster said, you’ll learn what stuff you need by taking the truck out and using it.

In reality, these trucks are incredibly capable bone stock and you really don’t “need” to change much at all. I suspect that like 90% of the stuff we do to our trucks is “want” items that you really don’t need to go out and explore. Nothing wrong with that though, it’s a fun hobby if you have the money to blow.

I also agree with those that said tires would be the first thing I would (and did) change. I switched my shitty stock toyo’s for General Grabber ATXs because they had the best reviews across the board for the most reasonable price at the time. I wasn’t about to pay extra for some KO2’s just to look cool. They have made driving in inclement weather and off road much safer.

We’ve camped in almost every state West of the Mississippi and a few east of it and I’ve never not found a spot on free BLM land that I couldn’t park the vehicle and sleep in and/or set up a tent, ever. Don’t see how that’d be possible where 99% of people camp.
