I have an aftermarket radio in my 2005 tacoma. Everything works with it until about once every month it won’t turn on. I know power is still getting to the radio because the buttons light up but the screen stays off. I have been fixing it by opening the fuse box, unplugging the radio fuse and once I put the fuse back in it will work for a while again. Someone had told me it’s a security thing for Toyota. Any idea on why it randomly happens and what I can do to fix it? Thanks!

No such function on Toyotas. Anything like that, usually is a fault in the wiring(ie. short), or a security function of the radio itself. Is it single DIN or double DIN? If it’s got a screen, see if you can find the code screen, and enter 1234 or 0000. Those are the usual manufacturers codes.

Personally, I’m guessing short. You’ll have to pull the unit and check the wiring. Check the fuse on the back of it while you’re in there.

Toyota has no stereo security features.

Short circuit??? Why would you guess that? A short circuit would blow a fuse.

I would guess that the stereo has an internal issue, that a total loss of power resets when he removes the fuse.

Once a month? Maybe it is a female stereo?

IDK, I was just trying something rather than “rip and replace.”
