Upper control arm bushing cut/torn: replace immediately?

    Those can easily damage the boots during use. Obviously doesn't matter if your replacing the ball joint already.

    I believe those are also referred to as a pickle fork. They work well but if memory serves me correctly, they can pretty easily tear the rubber boot. I have one and use it about once every ten years. When you need it, it's the shat, but only when you're replacing the unit. I agree, a couple of good whacks on the top leading surface of the spindle with the nut loose and it should pop free.
    Please wear some form of eye protection. (Playing the part of your dad today is.....)
