Belts lasting 100+ k miles?

On a one off model like a bently, rolls, rare british car? Sure!! That's a neat idea and I've never seen that before.

On a Tacoma where the belt is 40$ and takes 10 mins? No.

 

I’m at 76k miles. Will the belt last till 100k?

 

Probably last at least that long. Cheap insurance is to replace it every few years. A shredded belt can do damage inside the engine bay.
Worn belts can also put excessive wear on the drive pully.

Very much depends on where you live. Here in the PNW they easily go 100k mi. It's a read and run repair. Super easy to see a worn belt visually. Good belts do not suddenly come apart.

 

I feel time is just as important as miles. If a vehicle is 10 years old, but has few miles on it, the belt can still rot and crack. Fortunately, it’s easy to inspect and replace.

 

I've got at least 100k on mine...maybe more like 150k...

 

15 years/33,400 miles so far on the original.

 

Just changed mine at 70k. Kept the old one. If your going on a 4 day offroad adventure, it is cheap insurance.

 

Id say every 10yrs or 100k miles which ever comes first (less if you are dunking the truck in water often). Stick with OEM toyota, replace the belt, keep the old one in the truck as a spare and you will never have a belt break on you.

My belt at 100k and 7 yrs old looked good, but if you extrapolate that out.... 21yrs of use 300k miles and 2 belts purchased from original is not bad. The original belt looked good with no cracks but serpentine belts dont typically crack they wear down from the ribbed side which can be hard to see (hence why they have serpentine belt wear gauges).

My truck is not used as a daily driver so at 10 years and about 60k miles I replaced the antifreeze and serpentine belt. The old belt is now behind the rear seat waiting for emergency use. It certainly was in serviceable shape and could have lasted longer. The belt replacement only took about 15 mins and was about $ 35 for an OEM that I bought off eBay. The tensioners and pulleys showed no wear so I just did the belt swap.
It simply is cheap insurance, but you can do what you want.

 

Yup. Cheap insurance is the best insurance. Dont want to be stranded or have cooling problems when you need it the most. +1 to replacing coolant at the same time as the belt.

 

I just replaced the OEM one and I had 129k on it. (Still looked brand new, so I kept it as spare while on trails)

 

I'm at similar mileage but keep in mind it's an 8 year old truck. Age matters with rubber.

 

12 years and 116k on OE belt. Not recommended. But at least I put one on it, right?

 

Mine lasted 90k

 

Thanks to the OP for reminding me that I should probably do my serpentine belt. I'm at 42 months/80K miles on the original.


Just for grins, here's a timing belt that made it ~240K miles. 2UZ, 03 4Runner.




Obviously different than a serpentine belt due to being enclosed. But, I thought someone might find it amusing. I was really pushing it.
