Thinking of getting a magnetic drain plug. Does the 2020 Tacoma already come with one? Do they really work? Are they worth it? Most prices around $15.00

I would think if they "work" one may have serious issues?

If you have metal in your engine oil you have bigger issues. You have a filter, it does it’s job.

If you have a 2GR-FKS V6, then you already have an excellent filter that will allow you to inspect it for metal with little hassle. Simple do an oil and filter change, then with gloved hands separate the pleats of the filter media and look for metal. Pretty simple and no magnet needed.

If you want one... then buy it... I have only ever seen them on Diesel engines... can't think of a gas pot that I have ever encountered with one... someone will chime in with an example, I am sure...

I mean you can just inspect your filter, thats its job. The magnetic plug isn’t going to help much and it wont prevent anything .
I think it may make people “feel” better, but its not like it gives you any quantifiable protection in this situation.
Im not an engineer or a mechanic, but Ive only seen mag drain plugs used in fluids that don’t use external filtration such as diffs, xfer cases etc.
