Ive notice some tacoma guys talk trash on the 4cyl tacomas. Mainly talking about acceleration and such. If you wanted a racer then why didnt you get a hellcat or a mustang? With gas rounding $6 a gallon in some areas and 5 in others. Let me know how that 6 and 8 banger feels.lolol. i bought a 2003 toyota tacoma 5 speed in November 2002. Ive had it 20 years and never did anything to it in 300k miles. After a 15 month deployment, it idled rough but some driving and a small adjustment to the idle fixed it. It a 4cyl thats hauled blocks and 2 motorcycles. Its hauled cars and masonry trailer with mixer. Etc etc etc etc. During katrina, a trooper told me to keep it locked.lol. With shortages in personnel in my unit, the national guard had all members with pick ups take them fill them with water and follow the convoy to new orleans. So its served its country somewhat.lol. I had atleast a dozen offers to buy it from guys with the big king ranch and monster looking trucks down there and in texas because gas was 6 a gallon then in 2006. So yes, its been a good one. If it was something i couldnt haul then i made 2 trips. Its been to every state in the union except hawaii. If the battery died, well its a standard so....push start. Im also a mechanic for a living for chevrolet. Any mechanic worth his salt can make a 4cyl run a whole in the wind if desired. So 4 cyl is choice. You want a race car then get a race car. Its a yota coma for crying out loud.

The 2.7 is probably one of if not the best engine ever made by Toyota.
Well except maybe the 22R, which the 2.7 share a lot of the same design principles.

The 2.7 is a fine engine. But efficiency is not it's strong point....nor it's purpose. It's offered to meet a price point.
