I made a custom hitch rack out of a hinged hitch adapter and a hitch step.

Any way to mount recovery boards onto a Prinsu and lock it as well? I don’t want to use a bike lock, I’d rather use a padlock if I could.

Hey all... I got a set of traction boards off Amazon... looked fairly good for the price, so figured I'd give em a try... and now it's snowing in Idaho, I'd like to have something.

    upload_2021-12-27_16-44-52.jpg
I also have the upTop mid height bed rack with the older version of the TracMount brackets.
I could bore you with schematics and diagrams I have drawn out, measurements, etc....
But for the life of me, I cannot get any of the holes in the traction boards to align with any of the available mounting brackets or holes.
    So is life.
I have the right hardware to make it work if I could drill a couple 1/2" holes in a few specific spots...

Would anyone here feel like I would be comprimising the integrity of the boards should I drill a couple holes?

Thanks to some ideas from this thread got my traction boards mounted. Also found a way to mount my shovel to them freeing up my side bed rail. Remove center top loosen bottom knobs and rotate poly (cut from old mud flap) to remove shovel or remove top outer knobs to remove traction boards and shovel together.

Strength reduction because of drilling should not affect your board strength much at all. Maybe try to avoid corners in the patterns and avoid the center area?

Some boards are now coming with replaceable screws instead of the the plastic nubs for better traction. They have 30+ holes. Four holes in a good spot should be fine.

After reading this thread and buying some different hardware I came up with this. It's two 1 1/2" bolts through the adapt plates for my Sherpa rack and two eye bolts with washers and a coupling nut. The short bolts on the rack keep it lower profile when not carrying the boards and also allow the eye bolts with washers to drop in and engage. At first I tried longer bolts with knobs but they were a hassle. I can also run a bungee cord through the eye bolts if it's a bit wobbly being held on just one side, but I don't think it will be much of an issue.

Kind of an old post but any chance of getting away with less than the 3.5” bolts? Thinking of doing these for mine

Wanted an easy way to mount my traction boards on my Sherpa rack and also be able to take off the boards & pins when not needed. Started with 1”x 1”x 1/8” aluminum angle metal cut to the width of the traction boards & painted. The 1x1 is bolted to the side t slot w/3 1/4” drop ins or could use carriage bolts. 7/16” x 3” cleavis pins up thru the bottem of the 1x1 with a 3/8x 1/2” rubber bushing on the topside. The bushing is tight enough to keep the pin from falling thru while setting the boards on. Then simply install the hitch pin on the top. Generally I don’t have the boards on the rack for day to day driving so wasn’t worried about a locking set up. Figure if I can just wrap a cable lock around it if needed. 1AB8869D-3526-479C-80A6-8A7EFD743565.jpg

Picked up some x-bull traction boards and rigged up with random bungees and some thick foam sticky pads on the bulkhead to prevent rattling. I’ll figure something more permanent later, but this works surprisingly well. Can’t beat the $0 solution. :)

Made this one from Ace hardware parts yesterday. Pretty much just a 3/8” threaded rod, nut and plastic nut cover. Requires a header rail.

Mounted my new ARB Tred Pro traction boards to my DIY aluminum extrusion roof rack using Maxtrax Xtreme mounting pins, and some 1 1/2" Aluminum Angle (1/8" thick).

There has been some speculation on the internet as to whether the Maxtrax mounting pins will fit on the ARB Tred Pros, and I'm here to confirm that they fit 100%, with no modifications at all. The Maxtrax MKII pins WILL NOT FIT. The Xtreme version is thicker, and the Tred Pros are the same thickness, with identical mounting holes.

    20221206_225018.jpg

Each mounting post is secured using a single bolt to the aluminum extrusion, so I can easily pivot it out of the way when I'm not carrying the traction boards (these things are kind of expensive to be leaving out in the open 24/7...)

    20221206_225219.jpg

The mounting hardware is offset from each other to accommodate an allen wrench to remove/secure it.

    TRACTION BOARD ADDITION

I got a set of X Bull Traction Boards Gen-3 a few weeks ago, and they turned out to be the perfect size to fit in my extra space on the roof rack. The mounting hardware was OK, but I did a few mods to make it work for me. At $44.90 and free shipping, I couldn't pass it up.

The supplied hardware included four M10 x 165mm (6 1/2") all thread rods that are NOT stainless steel. Some black knobs , washers, and nuts. Also, a black hold down piece. It was close to what I needed, but I replaced the 4 all thread rods with (4) M10 x 180mm (7") stainless steel threaded rods, to work with my configuration. I also added some 1"x2" aluminum spacers.

I also picked up some nylon 1" yellow strap to attach to them so I can find them if buried.

The extra space on the roof was a perfect fit for the boards.

I used the aluminum spacers because the knobs cannot be screwed down within the board itself.

A perfect fit, one of the easiest mods I've done.
