Waiting on my new ‘22 TRD-OR 4x4 V6 DCLB to be delivered, hopefully in the next couple weeks… Since this will be my first Taco -and first truck after years with Subaru- I’m wondering what you’ve found to be your basic, must-have additions/accessories and what are your favorite online sources for them. Right now I’m thinking about longevity and interested in fairly basic, practical things that protect the truck.

(I’m not planning any major mods since I’m stoked about the truck as-is, and I will drive it stock for a good while before making any big changes.)

Truck comes with a bed mat, all weather floor liners and door sill protectors, and I’m planning to tint windows right away. Need tint in Arizona. But beyond that…? Window deflectors? Hood/bug deflector? Seat covers?

The tint shop also offers paint protection film. Anyone have experience with that? Thinking about gravel roads, and the Arizona sun here (especially with no garage). How have you guys protected your paint, if at all?

Today's trucks come with so many features and amenities, I don't think I could use them all. Let alone think of something that needs to be added. I guess tint could be useful, but if you aren't thinking about keeping a truck that long, is it worth it?

You can always upgrade the tires if you want to do something, and have no idea what to do.

Drive it. Let the truck tell you what it needs.

Don't buy shit before then. Because you're just going to take it off and replace it with what you need, as you'll eventually discover.

I also have a ‘22 TRD-OR 4x4 V6 DCLB on allocation/order expected to arrive late summer. I am not a fan of the stock 2-tone part silver OR wheels, so will probably immediately change to something 16”x7” all black. Will probably add Katzkin or Area leather.

I lived in Tucson for 20 years, tint is definitely a must have option.

OP has all the basics covered, what did to mine, rubber floor mats, sill protectors, bed mat, splash guards, window shade. Stock Wranglers on the OR are fine, run those bald then upgrade.

Like a topper since I basically use the bed as a massive trunk. Other than that, not going to touch it.

Since it lives outside, maybe a portable car port to protect the paint.

Being in AZ. Make sure to get high quality ceramic tint. Helps tremendously with keeping cab temps down.

The bed mat suggested by SwollenGoat is also a great idea. We have been surprised at how easily our son’s Tacoma composite bed has scratched.

The first thing I did with mine was add a camper shell. Changes the vehicle completely.

The most useful "minor" upgrade was the Anytime Backup Camera. This is just a pass-through wiring harness, and a switch, that lets you see the backup camera view at any time, just by pressing a button on the dash.

Here's some ideas, didn't do all these at once, but where I'm at after a year of ownership:
    OEM bed mat
    Weathertech floor mats
    Sill guards
    AVS in-channel ventshades
Sound deadening on back floor, back wall, all 4 door panels
Sound insulation on all 4 doors
    Replace factory speakers
UWS toolbox mounted on rails in front of bed
bug screens between front grill and AC condenser/radiator
    Recovery straps and accessories
    Fire extinguisher
    Tools
    Bottle jack
    Recovery boards
Header rail for front of bed (allows use of the factory tiedowns up front)
tiedown D-rings in the bed floor
    Chaos Fab bed stiffeners
Rola bed rack with tie down rings and load stop kit
    Various setup/settings tweaks
    OEM tailgate lock
    Steering wheel club lock
    ARB Tredpro traction boards
    Elastic cargo net
    Tacomods backlit knurled radio knobs

Personally, I had ECGS ship 4:88s to my gear shop with an ARB locker up front. I dropped off the truck and went to Hawaii. Came back re-geared and fully locked. So happy I did that first. Best mod by far.

Research cell phone mounts. Our Tacos have Apple carplay that requires your phone to be plugged into the USB port.

If you want to worry about plugging in your phone and all, then look into either buying a carlinkit to convert to wireless apple carplay or the motorola version for android auto.

I got those center console and glovebox organizers from Amazon, really great cheap buy that I use everyday. Bought a bottle jack, steering wheel club & jumper cables. Got a color matched topper for the back which was a total game changer, it came with Thule roof racks and I've just stuck an awning on it which is amazing, especially for chilling out in the Arizona sun. Apart from that, just kept up with the regular servicing and had a great time exploring!
