Anyone using a mesh network with their Starlink router?

If so, which one? How did you decide on that one? Does it meet expectations?

I use a D-Link AX1800 and have no complaints. I chose this one based off price and performance from a bunch of reviews online. It's not the best or the fastest or the longest ranged but it does everything I need within my house. Paid $117 in November, looks like it's only $80 now.

I already have my network built out with Unifi equipment.

Did I pay too much for the performance I'm getting? Probably. Do I enjoy it? Absolutely.

I love the seamless integration and control, and the range has been great. With my UDM and 2 WiFi 6 Lite access points, I've basically got coverage all over my 3rd of an acre.

 

I just don't understand the "integration" and "control" afforded by paying such a premium, especially when one is probably on the struggle bus for good internet as this thread would suggest. Watching Linus Tech Tips setup his new house with a million access points(Ok, it's a mansion but I still think he goes completely overboard), and other youtubers it seems like the only reason they are using the equipment is because it's given to them.

For my single family home(1800sqft), smart devices(thermostats, Google home, GoogleTV), personal workstation/laptops/tablets/phones, a storage server, Gaming consoles, etc.. A stand alone Wireless router and dumb switch is perfectly adequate and I have more than enough control.

I hate this aspect of Starlink.. I’ve been wondering about V.2 but this is surprising considering how much they tried to make it known they were mitigating the impact.

Anyone check their Starlink speeds lately?


It’s been like this for a few days. (Haven’t checked it since about a week after I got it when the highest I saw was in the low 200s.

 

The only speed that matters is the Starlink Speed - Router to Internet. No matter how fast our phones are sending and receiving data from the router the speed the dish communicates with the satellites and back is the limitation.


Mine has been consistently slower for the last several months compared to the first year.

I think its a bit absurd to call those speeds "slow"... The whole industry and its focus on 'gigabit speeds' is kinda crazy imo. Like, it makes no discernable difference in your everyday life, unless you are trying to download ridiculously huge DLCs or something.

Even then, this is probably still way better than whatever the typical Starlink customer had before (DSL or worse). Its even better than what I was getting on Xfinify before I dropped them last month.

 

My thoughts exactly, especially regarding gigabit speeds. Does anyone really need that, or even 5G on a cell phone? I'm getting only 25 - 50Mbps from my Starlink, but compared to the 3Mbps (advertised) of my AT&T DSL for the past 8 years, that's fantastic.

 

Fast enough for everything I do including occasional online gaming. Can’t complain.

 

For the record, I wasn’t calling the speed slow.
