Is anyone have rust issues yet with the 3rd gen trucks? Do the fender flares help protect against rust or just cover it up? When I applied my Woolswax I already had some rust starting after only 3 months on U-joints and some bolts. Probably need to remove fender skirts when I reapply in the fall to get rear fenders coated good.

You are probably talking about surface rust, which is nothing to worry about.

Better go get a butt load of clips that you will break removing them.

Fluid film every fall, 40,000 year round miles and multiple salty northeast winters, zero rust.

The frame is steel. It can and will rust.
Some just rust faster than others.
Some of it has to do with (or the lack of) preventive maintenance.
Some of it has to do with the climate and conditions were the truck is located.

Anyways, given time and conditions, Yes.
    The 3rd Gen can rust.

BTW, I think the 3rd Gen will probably do a little better at resisting rust than the 2 previous generations.

This right here instantly reminded me of Biff Tennan from Back to the Future yelling "MANURE!....I HATE MANURE!", which is coincidentally funny enough, because I ordered a sticker for the truck saying that lolil_794xN.3295490605_j7vs.jpg

I did the same thing with my 2021. Came through this winter not looking any different than when I applied it!

Now my recently acquired 2014 is gonna need a couple spots wire wheeled and treated with POR-15 before the Cosmoline treatment.

Tow my boat 2 to 3 times a week and the receiver hitch surface rust pretty bad. I think big part of it was that the ball hitch rusted and it somehow spreaded to the receiver. Every year I spray it with CRC inhibitor and even that it didn't help. Finally took a wire brush and did what I could to prevent the spread.

I coated my trucks hitch pretty good with cosmoline 2 years ago. I keep the other section with the ball in the cab when needed. I have a stainless steel hitch plug that has a weather seal, but even that doesn't protect surface rust from getting inside the receiver. Except for that no rust anywhere else.

2020 TRD Off Road - just noticed some rust recently. It was not like this a year ago. I can accept where some scrapes are, but noticing some issues creeping in. No salty roads here. Typical NC humidity but not terrible. Kinda bummed and not sure what to do to stop it. Thought about doing a test spot with DuraCoat.IMG_1848.HEIC.jpgIMG_1847.HEIC.jpgIMG_1846.HEIC.jpgIMG_1845.HEIC.jpgIMG_1842.HEIC.jpgIMG_1841.HEIC.jpgIMG_1849.HEIC.jpg

i'd spray off those rusty parts with brake clean, let it dry, then spray some cosmoline over it.
