Looking like I will be taking a trip on Lolo Pass tomorrow. We may end up going all the way up to Lost Lake. Are there any side roads I should take for some off roading tests with my stock Tacoma? I’ll have the family with me so I don’t want it to be too tough.

Last time I was on Lolo Pass I remember it being all gravel to the point where cars and street/cruiser bikes were on it. So not really what I consider off road.

Have any of you gone over Barlow Trail and Bennet Pass? I’m planning on a trip with a friend that has a Jeep Gladiator. I’ve attacked a photo of the path we will likely take. It looks fairly easy to moderate but would like to know what you all think.

we were just going to do bennet pass but my wife doesn’t want to go up the narrow ridge area so we are going around that first part of bennet pass.

I haven’t done that Barlow section. But I’ve been on that road that goes north off 48. It’s real easy before the junction with Bennett pass road. Going north from there can have some big ruts, but easy and fun to navigate. There’s a stretch that’s kinda narrow with a drop. Nothing sketchy, but a pain if you come across someone going the opposite direction. It’s real pretty up there.

was a great trip but it was cut short due to the trail being closed just passed the camp ground and had to turn around. The Stock Taco did great. I may have obtained some PNW pin striping and I banged against the skid plate a little so a lift and some larger wheels/tires would help.

the little Ford Ranger had a rough ride with the stuff suspension .

Did this yesterday with my kid. Technical in spots for sure, but doable probably for a stock Taco. You may want sliders though. The spot where the #2 label is is a little dicey, but there are also a couple cool camp spots out there and I never saw another person on that whole trail.

That looks like Bennet Pass and then up to Cold Springs Road?

I’ve never looped east of lookout mountain. Think I may have to try that. What was dicey at your #2 marker?

Nothing too dicey, just some shelves, boulders and some narrow spots with downed trees. I have a long box, so without someone spotting and no front camera I have to take it slow. I didn’t mean it to be too dicey. It was about the same as the trails we did in the Fellowship of PNW group on Saturday up at Post Canyon. Lots more roads to explore out there, just ran out of time like usual.

If you take the road that goes east at Lookout mtn that is arguably the roughest section, but I did it without airing down and by myself, so it can’t be that bad.

Does anyone know what the law is for having stickers on your windshield? I see jeeps rolling around with vinyl on the top portion of their windshield but I was wanting to have vinyl going down the passenger side pillar.

They got my neighbors Prius not long ago on the other side of town. Ballsy doing it in broad daylight.

Yeah it was just after I left for work. I went out the back way though so I never saw anything.
