Stinger HEIGH10 vs Pioneer system?

I installed my system last night and love it so far. The steering wheel control is perfect, it does take away the music info playing in the center screen but I expected that and didnt use it anyway. I cant get into the vehicle settings, but not a lot in there needed. I would setup things how you need them prior to you removing the factory unit. My factory amp seems to work just fine through it. I had a JBL system in my 2017 TRD OR and used the input for amplified on the PAC adapter box that integrates the unit with things. Android Auto and Carplay are both working perfectly, though they are a bit low in volume for my taste. Its something I can get over in time though. The volume on whatever you are on fades as directions are spoken like any other system would do anyway. SAT radio was easily added with the optional box you use in other after market systems. I was able to retain all my original antenna connections with the included adapters. Its a very simple install. It took me just over an hour from start to finish.

 

This is the part that bothers me. What if you have the settings like you want, then later do something like say...replace the battery, or really anything that requires you to disconnect the battery. Do all the settings revert to default and then you can't redo them because you now have a head unit that doesn't have them?

I've also seen youtube videos of people testing the preamp voltage output and apparently this unit only puts out 1.5 volts. I suppose you could fix that with a line driver from audio control.

 

Before doing this change i cant even tell you the last time i went into my settings on the factory unit. I have changed batter a couple times as well, and cant remember ever going into them. I wont miss it, and I have the original unit if I need it ever put away.

 

My friend just got his Stinger Heigh10 and I just finished installing my Pioneer WC6600NEX. I much prefer the Pioneer over the Stinger in many areas.

The Pioneer looks OEM, while the Stinger screams aftermarket... With the Maestro RR, I keep all my vehicle settings, plus the center multimedia screen keeps music info too. Wireless AA and Carplay is a must for me. And for me, the Pioneer seems to sound better and the speakers feel like they have more oomph.



The Stinger is much more plug and play though, less guess work. You would need to do some DIY wiring, Maestro flashing and bracket modification for the Pioneer, which can steer people away. The Pioneer also feels a little slower on the main interface, but is fine for Android Auto.

Also for those with the 360/Multi Camera system, there is a way to tie it in with the Maestro to have it display on the Pioneer.

 

I do like the pioneer as well, I just couldnt find it here and i didnt want to leave my truck with anyone to get it done in a way that looked as good as yours does. I do miss the things you lose a bit, but for the most part I weighed in on what i use and didnt use from the stock unit. Its a nice upgrade still, and very easy to install. I do with it was Maestro compatible though.

 

Isn't the Pioneer readily available on Amazon and Crutchfield? Or are you talking bout a local shop?

Another thing to consider when choosing between the two is price, a new Pioneer with all accessories and wiring just sits shy of $1500 on Crutchfield. Possibly cheaper if you get each them from other outlets. While the Stinger kit on Taco**Beast is almost at $1750.

I just looked at my friend's Stinger, and found out it runs on Android 4.2.2... I think that might be a security risk. I wonder if there is a way to root it and install Android 10 or higher to keep it up to date. If you can, then having A10+ would have a good number of benefits over Pioneer's Proprietary OS.

Its difficult to get support after you do sell it. I had bought a unit from a 2021 from a place that makes them work in earlier vehicles only to find out all updates and support must come from them. I decided to return it and got the stinger kit for a bit less. I have also decided to keep my factory unit in case I ever need to put it back in. If I were to trade in my 2017 for a newer truck as an example.

 

With the Pioneer unit, do you get vehicle diagnostic info? Maybe additional gauges? I don't think the Stinger unit has that capability.

When you say vehicle diagnostic info, are you talking about rpm, intake, exhaust, oil temp, etc. type of info? If so, yes. The gauges require the OBD2 port adapter to be plugged into the Maestro RR. TPMS (pressure&temp) and Battery Voltage does not require the OBD2.

 

I installed a stinger heigh10 in my Wife's 2019 Wrangler. Everything fit well, although it was tight, and the instructions were clear. However, our touch screen seems to not work in cold weather or periodically. I've upgraded to the latest OS, pull out the screen and checked the wires and connections, but still it stops taking input from the screen. All other inputs and controls work fine. I think this is a very expensive unit to have this kind of issue. Now for the sound, NOT IMPRESSED. OEM sounded better. Set up an amp with this head and it would be great. I love the larger screen, when it works, and the way if molds into the Jeep dash. If you are lucky and get a working unit, they are really nice. I recommend you have a dealer install it though, so you can come back on them if it does not work.

Hey, I had the Stinger installed in my 22 Sport and so far Im loving it.
One problem I’m having is with Siri…I can hardly hear her voice…I was able turn everything else up but not that…I even asked her to speak up and she did but I could use it a little louder. Any tips on how to turn siris voice volume up?

 

Do you have any experience with adding a wireless carplay dongle to eliminate the wires for the stinger head unit? I currently have the Carlinkit 3.0 with the factory head unit for my 2021 Tacoma that works pretty sell. Stupid that a head unit this expensive doesn’t just have wireless car play built in
