    Greetings,

I apologize of this has been already addressed in another post, but I spent a couple of hours reading through threads about odd beeping and didn't find anything that quite fit my situation.

The problem has been intermittent since I bought the truck this past February. I initially thought that was just how Tacomas are, but the problem comes and goes so infrequently and in the past few days it started acting different. It's a push button start and I have replaced the battery in the FOB twice (even cleaning the contacts within the FOB), just to make sure that wasn't the problem.

When I shut the engine off and get out of the truck, sometimes I get the 3 beeps that others. It would sometimes happen before I open the door and other times after opening it and sometimes after closing the door before locking it with the FOB. I have never had the issue some have experienced where the FOB fails to work, I can lock/unlock it whenever I want and it starts up with no issues every time. It just seems that sometimes I get the weird 3 beeps after shutdown, regardless of the door position or the headlight switch position or whatever. The door ajar indication comes on and goes off with each door opening/closing as you'd expect. The headlight on indication comes and goes as advertised, but the beeping happens anyway.

Here lately, the truck has started doing this long continuous beep (same tone as the 3 beeps, but it is a steady tone), for well more than a minute. It has happened before I open the door and after I open the door. With no indications on the dash, it will just start with the BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! I have found the only thing that stops it is if I push on the brake pedal, the long beep will stop, but this has no effect on the 3 individual beeps which continue to happen infrequently.

I have even had the individual beeps and the long tone occur at the same time. I am at my wit's end with this! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Ernie

My '21 did this to me today as well and not sure why. Stopped, turned off, and upon exiting it gave me I think 5 beeps.

The long beep I think means you tried to lock the truck with keys inside? Do you have a second fob that fell under a seat or something?

Have you tried muting the beeping sound in your infotainment system? Doing so should stop the beeping when locking/unlocking your truck. If you still hear beeping afterwards then its not an issue with the locking/unlocking feature

Long beep, as mentioned means it thinks the keys are inside the truck when you lock it, OR a passenger door is ajar when you try to lock.

Three beeps could be door ajar or headlights. Check your dashboard and see what it's telling you.

    Check your doors and hood.

I was still sitting in the truck when it happened. Because I had already read through several posts about the beeping, the last 3 times it happened I was able to verify that it has nothing to do with the doors/hood, headlights, or a 2nd key FOB.

My 21 does that when any door is still open and I try to lock via fob, or if truck thinks the keys are still inside.

Sometimes the proximity sensor gets a bad reading and it thinks the keys are somewhere they are not . Next start cycle it goes away.

Cant say it’s happened a lot, maybe 3 times in the last 7k miles / 11 mos.

If it keeps happening to you, the proximity sensor is my guess if its not operator error. If the truck is still under warranty, the dealer will know what to do, you cant just tell them you have a bad sensor. They will diagnose it first and run down the usual supects.
