I never claimed that it or any were waterproof. I can’t speak to others just the one I’ve used. The one I have (bakflip MX4) hardly lets any water in. Wife and I were in coastal Oregon during the winter and even through the constant rain and moisture it kept enough water out despite having a bed full of clothes and other traveling items so that nothing was damaged.

For the most part the toyota cover has sealed well ....it seals even better with age, at least mine has. I no longer get moisture drops on the drivers side during wicked thunderstorms, or wind driven rain. Any water now in the bed comes from those two tiny slots on the beds rear floor.

Know a guy that does carpentry work. He had one on his full size truck and when he was on a job and needed into his bed there would be leaves or seed pods from Maple trees that would fold up in the cover. He didn't like that so he took the cover off his truck. He has a soft roll up cover now on his truck.

Cough. I will not tell you what I bought was the best ever.

I have a Lomax trifold. While it's excellent, when I got a longer mountain bike I realized the stance version of the lomax would be better... Wasn't out when I got mine but that last little flip up would let my new bike fit with the cover.

Easy enough to take on and off though. I also bought used, I probably would have done the heavier paint. Mine is now several years old and is used constantly throughout the winter and summer. It takes a beating. I was really interested in a diamondback hard cover but since I go on/off for my bike so often that wouldn't be very logical. It takes a minute to fold the cover, take it off and drop it in the garage. Granted I can't leave stuff in the bed when biking anymore..

Next time I'm probably getting the Lomax stance. I carry stuff in the bed like snowboards and tools so I like to have more security than the roll up.

I've had one on my '15, and now on my '22. Looks great, easy to install works perfect, great warranty. When rolled up it is 99% out of the way. Never had an issue.

Best cover is NO cover. If you ever actually use the bed,you need to take the thing off. So,it will just get in the way.
I bought one years ago for a Dakota I owned,it was on the truck for two weeks and spent the rest of it's life in the rafters of the garage.

I've had my toyota cover off a couple times to use the entire bed on bigger objects. Its not a big deal removing it and installing it back later. 5 minutes and a 12mm drive is all that needed.

Yeah, true, but I just leave that off because it provides no security because anyone with a socket set can take it off. Doesn’t seem to affect anything as far as holding it down. Still pretty tight on there without it.

It can get pretty windy on the roads here. I just don't trust it without some extra security. Last thing i need is the cover to fly off into someone without a warning.

Yeah that 12 mm bolt is more of a safety thing I think. It's not really for security as you pointed out as it's easily removed. But I don't see why you would remove it unless you are taking the cover off. But you do you brother.

I think it depends on what you use the bed for. Nothing like walking out of a convenience store to find someone lifted a $3000 inverter welder out of the back of your truck that belongs to a customer. According to the security camera, 2 guys in about 20 seconds.

I have had a Leer fiberglass cover, pain in the ass but it sure took good scroll pin striping. Last was a Pace Edwards Jackrabbit, very secure just took up too much room.

    Looking at a Lomax now.

Simple laziness. I take my cover off and on frequently. I keep the bolt in my glove box just in case but after keeping it off a few times I realized that it really doesn’t do anything. What is it reeeeaaly keeping safe? That cover is not going anywhere.

Depends to where you live, and travels. Not much vehicle breakin crime where i'm at, or go. Gotta be more worried about vandalism than anything. I try to stay out of those rat infested big cities.

I was a salesman in the welding industry for 35 years with a territory that would take 5 hours to get from one end to the other. 2 or 3 nights in a hotel every week made for sleepless nights if you had a couple of $3000 welders in your truck. I drove 40,000 miles a year then. Now I am in the same industry just office bound (at home) and I dont really have to have a cover, but I like being able to buy something at Home Depot and lock it up while I wander the isles of Total Wine.

To say the best cover is no cover is really a non-sensical answer.

This is the first pickup i've had with a tonneau cover. I liked the tonneau cover that my neighbor had on his older chevy pickup, especially how new the bed still looked in his truck after 15 years... no big dings, or rust after with a cover. Plus its a lot easier brushing snow off the cover rather shoveling it from the trucks inside bed. I really didn't know how i'd like the cover at first, now i wonder why i didn't have one years ago.

I think you just have to ask yourself, what your using the tonneau cover for. I just don’t want people snooping in my bed. I went with the rough country roll up <$300. Something affordable and does it’s job. But I only have my backpack and gym bag in my bed.

Coming soon: Compact powered sub install Future mods planned: bigger tires (265/75/16) BILLSTIEN 5100 lift
Mine was my first pick up so I really didn’t know what I wanted but coming from an suv I wanted a place to keep things covered and mostly dry. I only ever have my gym and bowling bags in there on the regular. Sometimes I have stuff from lowes Home Depot, groceries or stuff from the wholesale club. I needed something to keep camping gear and clothes that aren’t in my pop up when I’m in route
A $300 roll up probably would have worked but I liked the idea of a hard cover so I got the low max
