Brake pad clatter? If you press the brakes a little does it still do it? Tacoma's are known for this. Springs are about $3 each, maybe add a second one. Or, Bolts that hold the power window assembly in place? I have to tighten those every few years...

Wheel well lining maybe? I have a rattle in reverse on the passenger side. It’s the air intake ratteling on the body. Haven’t tried fixing it yet.

I had a similar rattle that was pretty noticeable with low rpms. I also thought it might be my heat shields but they all seemed tight when I checked. Only later on did I figure out there was a rock stuck on the other side of the heat shield which was causing the rattling so if you have a chance, maybe pull them off just to double check there isn't anything caught in-between.

My 2005 SR5 is doing the same thing. And it's driving me freaking BONKERS!!!! Everything's been checked. I don't know what to do.

I had a similar thing with my 2008. Sounded just like a loose heat shield but I checked it time and time again and it wasn’t budging. So one day I waited until the truck had been parked overnight and crawled underneath it and began banging on everything to see if I could recreate the noise. It did it when I smacked the exhaust. So on a whim, I switched out the exhaust gasket (#13 in the diagram) and voila, no more noise. Since it’s only about a $10-$15 part, might be worth checking into. I’ve got a 4.0L double cab so if yours is different, then this might not be valid for you. E0BD0FFD-7888-40A2-B373-3F6302AAD742.jpg

Hi. Wow, that's interesting. Mine sounds like it's right at the front wheels though. Also, it doesn't do it if my brakes are compressed when driving over something..... Mine is a 4.0L double cab also.

When I clank on the heat shields.....the sound that it makes, makes me think it's the heat shield!

In the morning I'm going to get under there and give it a knock. Thank you.

It wasn't the muffler gasket. I had it changed this morning. I still think it's the heat shield. I'm at a loss.

My springs are there. Maybe I should try doubling up on them.
