So I’ve had my Tacoma about a month now and had noticed some things that I was wondering about. When I bought it the dealership (not a Toyota dealership) sold it as ‘SR/SR5/TRD’ and told me it was an SR5. While on the test drive I noticed that it had some features that the SR5 doesn’t always have such as crawl control and locking differential. But I just thought what the heck I’m glad to have those things, and I really don’t care if it’s an SR5 or not. Adding to the mystery was that the owner had debadged the entire truck and as I have come to find out, removed the TRD off-road stickers from the bedside! So I loaded the Toyota app on my phone today just for grins and when I scanned my barcode this is what came up!

The fact a dealer defines a truck's trim by the stickers on it and then sells it that way is just one more example of their incompetence.

If you paid SR5 price you probably did good.

I think so! I got great money for my trade and felt like - after looking at several earlier year Tacomas - that this one was priced at a great deal. Enough that I was willing to drive across north DFW to get it, lol.

You will like the crawl controls if you do go off roading. Especially the rear “lockers” and auto LSD.
Just a reminder, to engage the 4x4 H & L , the lockers, and crawl controls at least monthly . To keep them functioning. Read the manual.

Have fun , enjoy your new 2018 TRD!

Lol, it’s already begun! I’ve been doing small mods for now. I want to lift it, probably 2/1, but promised my wife I wouldn’t spend any REAL money till we got past vacation and other things like painting the house

Many people do not understand how spend “money”. The first priority is take care of the family first, especially the children. There needs should always be first, clothes, school supplies, etc.

Time is just as important as money. When you have children , it is important you spend more time, (quality too). Then on yourself. Children look up to there parents as “gods”. They want to become just like you! And they will copy and behave just like you. Wait till till become adults, you will see yourself in them.

Anyways nice you want to take of your wife and family first. Before the Tacoma.

    Oh look, another mod....

I hope you bought it from Toyota of Dallas or Vandergriff Toyota, they have been price gouging the shit outta customers for over a year on Tacoma's. I would love to hear about them taking it in the chin for once.

but then of course, there's a way to make way, way more on the trade-in if they only look at the stickers!

The true test of the dealers incompetence is to put Pro name plates on the doors and see if the same dealer offers you more then you paid.

26k, 109k…hopefully that’s good, I thought it was! Especially since they paid me what I paid for my silverado when I bought that 3yrs ago.

Search for the same year, mileage used TRDOR and see what comes up!

I don’t believe any of this because when you run the VIN it comes up foolproof even the lot porter cannot misidentify the vehicle. Nice story though.

You should look at the market for 350Z's. Six models, all look the same. Dealers frequently misidentify them. Unless you have personal knowledge of the transaction you might apologize to the OP for calling him troll and instead congratulate him for finding an unanticipated upgrade.
