Hey all, wondering what the purpose of a camper is on a 5 ft bed Tacoma since most of us are over 5 ft long and can't sleep in it with the tailgate up / enclosed? Is it just like a tonneau cover to keep things dry but only a couple feet higher? I'm failing to justify this purchase, please help me out?

But i don't keep a bunch of junk in my bed and a tonneau cover does that also. Your picture looks like a 6 ft bed? If i had a 6 foot bed i could actually camp/sleep in the camper lol.

    1. Extra Height w/ maintaining weather protection.
    2. Sleeping area for kids/pets, or curled up in the fetal position. (I sleep just fine in the 5ft bed)
    3. Security, but nothing is really secure.
    4. Overland getup gear and addition room if you have a decked system.
    5. Cause some may just like the look and functionality depending on their setup.
    6. Most importantly it limits the amount of stuff you can put in the bed to help your friends and family move! (Sorry ya'll, I got a truck but I can't put your sofa in it!)

Thank you, that lasts one seems like a downside and upside lol, sometimes I have to move big stuff but I'm sure the camper caps come off relatively easily for those occasions.

They can, but at least if you need to move something you can take it off with a few extra set of hands, but if someone else needs you to move something, sorry, its stuck!

probably an old guy thing since I've had one on three other pickups...
I have slept in mine, kept stuff dry for camping, and hauled our kayaks.

The paint matched looks so good! How much did you get that one for?

Look into the Softtopper. It accomplishes the same thing, yet only weights 26lbs. Easy to drop or remove if the bed is needed for hauling taller items.

If you are crafty, you can also go with a rack over the top of it to carry more stuff.

Bought the week I picked up my truck, June 2014: $1450 from Leer dealer. Has fold out front window, carpet lined interior, LED lights, Thule factory installed rails, and headliner net.
