Retracted SoftTopper with a Bed Rack?

Does anyone have a build where they have both a SoftTopper and a Bed Rack and is still able to retract their SoftTopper towards the front of the truck completely? Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I've been trying to find some information in the internet but have come up short, I heard that I would have to take out the middle bar for some of these bed racks but I've never seen anyone talk deeply about it or even show photos.

I want to see a build where the SoftTopper itself is retracted completely while still having a bed rack mounted.

I just want to know if it can be done and if so can I see photos and what should I get? Thanks in advance.

 

I used to run a bed rack under my topper in the winter (I dont use the topper in the summer) but had to take it off when I got my new ice fishing shack as it didnt fit under the cross bars.

But I could fold the top down any time I wanted with the rack on there. The cross bars are home made, its just 1 inch box tubing bolted to the bed rails.

 

Not sure that's ever going to happen but I'm watching this thread just in case. The Softopper increases in height has it folds forward. The rack would have to be extremely tall to allow for that. Check out Datin Fab's website. They make the rack that Softopper sells. They say "Softopper will not retract all the way forward with the rack installed, the sides and rear will roll up with the rack on for access".

Not sure why you'd need to retract it when the rack will still be there anyway? You can go still go safari mode and basically open it up. I'm using a Softopper with Extrusion Overland rack. It's a great combination.

 

Thanks for taking the time to take photos and show me! Although I was actually asking for a rack on top of the topper while it is retracted but it's cool to see a bed rack inside.

 

ah yeah jus tried it and saw the height of the back bar go pretty high up before retracting backwards. it's definitely not possible to have a rack unless it's tall. Thanks for the insight and advice.

 

What for? I only ask because I have seen people put rooftop tents under the soft toppers before - there's a few threads of it on here. Easier on a long bed but a couple people did it on a short bed.

 

I'm thinking something like this with a easily disconnected cross bars.
