Transmission temperature gauge?

Hello,
I have a 2020 Prerunner and wondered if anyone knows if there is a screen for a built in temperature gauge for this truck?
Going to Colorado again pulling a trailer and wondered if it is available or do I need an after market one?

There is nothing for that stock.

You can use the mod linked above or get a Bluetooth OBD adapter and the OBD Fusion app with the extra Toyota PIDs to see it on your phone.

 

i use a bluetooth obd module and one of the apps on my phone to read the transmission temps, amongst other things. you can also use it to check your timing advance if you got bad gas, or other power issues.

 

I use the scan gauge 2 to monitor trans temps. It lets you see pan temp and tc temp.

 

what is a 2020 prerunner? do you mean 4runner?

 

could you just use something cheap like this?

the toyota trans temp is not a normal PID, so most code readers won't pull the data.

 

Prerunner is Toyota's terminology for 2 wheel drive trucks with 4x4 ground clearance. They dropped the badging, but when you order parts for them, it comes up in their system as a prerunner.

Had an old friend with a Scan Guage and with my eyes I could not see the very small display, so I went with the Ultra Gauge which has a larger display I can read. My understanding is the Scan has more options to display than the Ultra, but the Ultra does have the two Trans Temp displays available for my 2021 AT. Pan Temp and Converter Temp.

 

I use an ultra gauge, pretty cheap and has dozens and dozens of readings you can choose from.

 

Do you have the Ultra Guage MX model? From what I see the EM does have transmission temps.

I Bought the Ultra Guage MX 1.4 about a year ago to do some trailering. I was hoping it had the ability to display what gear the truck was in and if the Converter was locked. We (Ultra Guage and myself) never did get those last two up and running.

Knowing when the converter is locked can reduce your temps by quite a bit while towing. When the two temps are close to one another the converter is locked, but this requires more monitoring than I want to do.

 

Just got my UltraGauge MX ordered the Tacoma/Tundra Can
Running in a 2021 Tacoma 4x4 TRD OR
you have to change the programming to what’s in the picture below.



and bam! Trans pan temp and post torque converter temp (as far as I know they are separate readings, will update after some driving to test.)

 

what app do you use to see your trans temp? ive tried OBD fusion can't seem to find the PID, thanks in advance for any input

yes sir, can't find anything related to the trans. the latest is for 2021 Toyota.

 

Do you see Toyota folder when you add a display.
What year is your truck? Truck year model must match pid package year.

 

I have a 2023. Just found this thread as I was trying to set up my OBD Fusion today. If I buy the 2021 add on package would that work?
