When I talked the wife into going to "look" at the new Tacoma I knew we were going to drive one home....I just had to have one of these new contraptions. She wears the panties in the house so I knew selling it to her was the key (I knew once she test drove it we were gonna take that baby home). She loves Tacoma's so it pretty much sold itself....loaded TRD sport in the Inferno color. I wasnt going to leave Precision Toyota Tucson without that truck. Did the same thing in 2005 when the new Tacoma hit the lot....that bad bich still sits in my garage and is my DD to this day!

I knew that I would be getting a 2016 but wasn't sure of the timing.

I went to discuss it with my local dealer and they didn't have any double cab's in stock to test drive, so we talked initial numbers but didn't have anything set. I went back about 2 weeks later when they had one close enough to my preferred options to be worth test driving. We started looking at allocations and trying to find the exact match I wanted. We ended up finding it, but I still thought we'd be too far apart on numbers and I'd have to wait for the hoopla to die down.

I had set $31,000 including fees (but not state taxes) as my price. I wanted a 4X2 DCSB TRD Sport w/ towing package. After about an hour and 3 different people at the dealership, we struck a deal and I put down a deposit.

I knew I'd be buying one for over a year. Once I heard some stuff that came out about it at the 2014 Las Vegas dealer meeting I planned to buy it. Been waiting for over a year now, only a month and a half to go hopefully

I preordered mine August 12... Received it yesterday on the first day of release for Canada. Didn't even test drive it before paying for it as it was still in inspection at the dealer, that was probably stupid, but I love it dearly so it all worked out :)

    Bass-ackwards story at my place.

Wife has been itching for a truck for a while to haul lumber in for her around-the-house-projects.
I didn't give a rats-azz about a truck and since both cars had under 50,000 miles on 'em and were paid for I was like what for.

Started looking about a year ago and kinda liked what I was seeing, took one for a test drive and liked it.
Took another for a test drive and ended up back at the house with the key in my pocket... I panicked and told the wife I had to
get back to the dealer otherwise the sales-dude would get in a lot of trouble.

She handed me the checkbook and said don't come home without it.

    She's always right...

I think the first time I knew was when I rented a Sport back when the 3rd gens first came out. It was to be used for a work project overseeing access road grading and repairs for a utility company. One section was especially bad. It was only about 50-75 yards but severely washed out, rutted, steep angle, full of large rocks. IIRC the utility guys weren't allowed to use it. Anyway, the situation dictated I had to go ahead of the grader, so no way out of it. I decided it was okay to send it since he could pull me out if I binned it. I put it in 4 low, picked my line, kept my thumbs out of the wheel, left foot on the brake and kept the power down. I was dragging the belly pretty much the whole way up but somehow never totally lost traction. We both don't know how that little white truck made it up, but it did. All-seasons, no locking diff, etc. Really nothing special about it.

Have had a lot more other fun stories in a bunch of other fleet/ work rental Tacomas since then before finally being able to get mine.

I did my "looking" online. After I knew exactly what I wanted, only then did I go to the dealers. I didn't like the attitude of the first dealer I went to, so I ended up at another dealer (one that we had bought a car from before). No negotiation. I offered MSRP, less the manufacturer's rebate, and the dealer accepted. All-cash deal, no financing, no add-ons, no extended warranty. Then it was just a matter of waiting for the allocation to arrive.

In the OP he says he got his first Tacoma new in 2005 and it was still sitting in his garage when he got the 2016. Something tells me he's still got them both

As nice as the 3rd gen is, and inferno was the best color. I think I would have rather driven of the lot in a 2015 TRD OR 6spd manual. Nothing wrong with having two 2nd gens.
