So this will be a thread dedicated to my build of my 2007 DCSB indigo red pearl Prerunner. The truck was my grandfather’s until 2019 when it became my mother’s, then in 2020 it became mine once I got my license. The truck is called “The Truck” because it’s what I’ve always called it so I’ve never come up with a name or anything for it.

Here is the earliest picture I can find of it. Since I’ve gotten it I’ve decided to put a bunch of stuff on it and decided I wanted to convert it to 4wd. I’ll provide a list of mods, items, and their prices since my girlfriend doesn’t really care how much money I spend on the truck as long as I still give her attention (she’s a keeper). Here are the most recent pictures of the truck (as of June 8th 2022):

Below will follow my list of mods in semi-chronological order.

    MODS
    • Leer cover (free) came with the truck but did have a problem locking on the driver side when it was passed to me, fixed that with a few washers.
    • Bullbar ($80) got it from a guy who bought a 2nd gen and didn’t like it, I mostly wanted it to mount lights on.
    • Hella 500ff lights ($60) they look cool.
    • Cali Raised Light up switch ($20) How can you just put a normal switch in a Tacoma? No, it has to light up when you press it or I won’t even touch it.
    • Hella 500ff cage cover ($15) I didn’t like the cover the lights came with.
    • Body Armor 4x4 TC-2961 ($700) I got rear ended by a speeding Cadillac so I needed a new bumper and I wanted something beefy so the next person who hit me wouldn’t send me back to the body shop.
    • Shackles for the rear bumper ($30) it looked naked without them.
    • Hitch shackle and locking pin ($60) I didn’t really trust the shackles on the bumper at first so I bought a hitch shackle to use if I ever needed it.
    • 3rd gen TRD-OR shocks+UCAs ($180+$80) I wanted new shocks because driving through construction every day for years really killed mine.
    • New headlight housings (free) sent to me from my grandpa when he saw how faded mine were.
    • Wheel paint ($40) I wanted to paint my wheels so I bought 3 cans of primer and 3 of wheel paint, I like how it turned out.
    • Headlight upgrade Osrams+wiring harness ($170 shipped).
    • Badge overlays ($100) this was insanely expensive but I needed them because I broke my “Prerunner” badge when trying to paint it so the overlay is holding it together, I also got rid of the badges on the door and replaced them with stickers because they were deformed.
    • Diaz Fabrications THRB ($37) the bolts holding my hitch bracket were really badly rusted so when I did research on them I found out about this bracket so I bought it.

Well here’s the list so far, if I’ve forgotten anything I’ll come update the list. I’m not counting anything maintenance related like spark plugs or new tools or tires, if I did my girlfriend might start caring about how much money I spend. I’ll also come back and add to the list as I put new stuff on the truck, in a couple years when I convert it this list will get very very long.

Have now added 245/75r17 Michelin LTX ms2s. Currently in Englewood Florida on vacation and the tires drove great down here. I got them mounted the day before leaving and also found out that while I have the 17” alloys on the truck it initially came with 16” wheels. This is both strange, since neither me nor my grandpa changed them out, and inconvenient because my spare wheel is 16” not 17”. So now I have to find a 17” spare, buy it, then pay for it to have the last tire mounted.

    Cost Breakdown

    • Michelin LTX ms2: ($250) for 5 of them used with less than 5k miles.
    • Tire installation+alignment ($80+$120) got it from tire outlet, they also gave me an application when I told them I was starting work at another tire shop the next week.
