I missed the anniversary. 80 years ago, the Battle of Midway. June 4,5,6,7, 1942. Not my anniversary, mine came 20 years later when I was stationed on Midway, The US Navy FPO put out a request for a design for a Cache stamp to be stamped on outgoing mail on those dates in 1962. I won the design contest, although I have no idea how many other designs there were competing. The information I initially had on the exact dates of the battle were June 4 & 5, 1942, so that is what I put on my design. I was informed that there was an initial American attack on June 3 to a couple of Japanese troop transports, who were to occupy the island after the attack, so that date should be included, making it June 3, 4, & 5. Since then, more research into the events extended the official dates to June 7, as that was the day the Yorktown keeled and sunk. The June 3 date was dropped because the American attack on those transports was deemed uneventful. The Cache stamp appears on the picture here, being a rubber hand stamp. This picture is off the internet, and not in my possession. Unfortunately, on that anniversary, I mailed several postcards, not letters, which did not take the rubber stamp clearly. I have the postcard I mailed to my mother, and just now, I bought the example pictured here from Ebay!

Damn... that is such a cool story. Congrats on your work and winning, and becoming part of history.

And the design is really interesting. Great work. Are you producing artwork today?

    Interesting indeed, Alan!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Declaring victory over the pool filter, as only tiny amounts of Zeolite get flushed from the lines now. And the wife insisted it be turned down from high, so it will be even less frequent. Off for a haircut today, and see if I can find beer. One cannot buy Shiner Blonde in this town anymore. Very annoying.

I finally found a really good bottled Margarita made by Mike's Hard lemonade... and they quit making it. Everything else I've tried sucks.

I've still got some Mike's Harder in the frig. Nice change in the heat now and then; especially pool side. I'm only allowed the infrequent Margarita and such.

Thanks, and no, art wasn’t my thing after all, but I thought it was at that time. I didn’t have a lot of free time to do that design though, as I was moonlighting setting pins at the bowling alley for the entire tour, saving up for my new Austin Healy Sprite to be picked up in San Francisco after returning Stateside. I wish I still had that ‘62 Sprite today! Last of the true Roadsters! Would you believe it cost me a whopping $1923 plus tax/license back then? I loved that car so much, I still remember the serial number: HAN6L11850. Totaled it twice, restored it twice, finally let it go in 1980.

    I know the feeling!

    My 1967 Datsun 2000.

Long story, but my ex ended up with it after a divorce. I got the kids, dogs, and the house. I got the better deal on that one!

Odd trivia, it was a 1967.5-year model 2000. Rare as hen's teeth. Prior to that hardware was all SAE fine, but this was the first "metric" vehicle. They used French Standards. So 5mm was 5mm x 0.75mm thread compared to the "Japanese Metric" of 5mm x 0.8mm thread we know today. Later screws had a dimple to note "ISO Standard" threading. So between 1967 (10-32); 1967.5 (5mm x 0.75mm); 1968 (5mm x 0.8mm) you had to have your thinking cap on when "mixing and matching" parts that seemed to interchange. Many engine builders destroyed engines as the 11MM head bolt size seemed so odd (hint machine tooling remained 7/16-20 TPI) yet some idiot would try to find an 11mm x 1.25mm Helicoil for a stripped engine bolt. Sheesh. Photo in front of my old house in Round Rock, TX.

As a "kid" I was constantly buying, rebuilding, and selling Datsun and Toyota's. We had a ton of Japanese import engines available on the west coast. I got a 2TC with dual Solex from an importer and dropped it into a Corolla with a blown engine. $250 Engine, $250 car. Running, new clutch, and brakes ($80). Sold for $1200. Making $2.50 an hour in a gas station was good money. Wish I had kept that Corolla or a '72 Hilux, but needed the money.

    And .....
never made it. Chores go slower at these temps. But the vehicles are cleaned off, yard is done, going out for pizza. And, pool time when I get home from San Antonio Cars & Coffee when I get back. Holler if you'd like to get up too darn early some second Saturday.

Good afternoon patio people. Did my daily 5 mile walk this morning before it got too hot. Then I played 18 holes in 90+ temps. Dug out the last 15 sprinkler heads to replace 3” pop ups with 4” ones. They clear the taller cut lawn now. I’m “out of gas” so the remaining 10 will have to wait until tomorrow. Fitbit says 23,000 steps. Just can’t do what I used to do. I’m sure I’m the only one.

Did the same here yesterday, trimmed the East side of the property where the lane goes up to a garage, darn briars and barberry bushes grow like crazy and always seem to want to grow out over that lane.
