Added protection for tailgate

I just added this mod for extra protection..I already have a lock on my tailgate but it’s been the 3rd time that I come out of work and they unhooked the cables trying to take my tailgate,but they realize that it has a lock and they walk away lol..hopefully this stops that

 

Where do you work that this has happened 3 times?!

 

Are u locking your tailgate at the handle??

I work at a busy retail store..my tailgate doesn’t lock..I bought my truck used so I believe the previous owner might have got his original stolen, and he probably bought a replacement. but he didn’t leave the key

 

I HATE that the first year models of the 3rd gen has two different keys.

 

I had the dealership install the automatic lock on the tailgate, so lock once with the button and all is locked. Very convenient.

 

Same here and I love it. Problem is that the OP says his tailgate doesn't lock, which I assume means that the locking mechanism is either missing or broken. If this is the case then the auto tailgate lock won't solve his problem since it's basically just an electronic key turner.

 

He lost or was never provided with the key. Don’t think you need the key to have this installed.

Wow, the seconds it only takes to steal this is flabbergasting. Glad mine is always locked.

 

I have that one in place already I just did the washer hack for extra protection

 

Insurance cost ? For replacing the Tacoma tailgate, all the parts, camera, paint, estimate $1500-$2000 plus.

Worth buying tailgate locks and devices. Saves on the headaches. Time
