If anybody wants some I bought a huge jar of ferric nitrate crystals. I will disolve 3 to 1 in distilled water and ship you a jelly jar full for 25 edited price!!!!!!!!! bucks. Shipping is insane!!!!
This is the exact same chemical you can make by dissolving iron in nitric acid untill it wont hold anymore. But you dont have to neutralize ferric nitrate crystals because there is no residual acidity left.

Not trying to make money on it, just pay for the crystals, my canning jars, and shipping.

Of course. 1/3 of a cup makes a whole jelly jar full. I made enough to last till I die. Lol.

    Just plain old curly maple.

Pictures do not come close to how cool it looks. The chatoyance is stunning.

This where I learned how to do it.

Getting a router sled put together today. Have a roundslab cut of genuine Peruvian walnut or “ipe” that I cut out of the Peruvian jungle myself and brought back to the states when I lived there for a few years. Need to get a bow tie or two in it asap. Having some cracking going on. Not looking forward to sanding this. It’s like sanding diamond.

20220607_192545.jpg While not on par with most things here, it was something that needed to be done. Been working on a bathroom remodel and the very last thing I had to do was was come up with 3' of some oversized cove mounding. I bumped the wall out into living room so I could get a recessed shelf unit in the bathroom. Did not want to replace all the moulding in LR and couldn't find a match anywhere. So brought out my crappy Makita tablesaw and piece of sandpaper wrapped around a caulking tube. Perfect match.

Yep. When it’s freshly felled, ipe is easier to cut, almost like oak. When it’s been laying down for awhile (2 years in this instance), the resin hardens and it becomes more like concrete. Had to resharpen the saw 1 time about halfway through that one cut and keep almost all my body weight forward on the saw handle to keep it from bouncing hence the uneven cut.

Got it flattened. I had to take off almost an inch as some spots. Now need to go get some 40-60 grit sandpaper. The 150 I have does nothing. I am a bit worried about the lines and how tough it will be to get them out but am glad to be able to see the grain now.

need to get a bow tie in it asap. The cracks have opened up more as I have taken material off. All I have is some hickory laying around so thinking of using that.
