Did I just get lucky or have any you FI folks also noticed better mileage on the YWT?

I had been running ECT - ON everywhere with the Maggy tune. Consistently this yielded 17-18 MPG. ECT - OFF wasn’t really any better. I haven't seen 20 MPG after adding the SC.

Since going to the YW FI tune (YW_04B82_Stryker_MagSC_90mmPulley_33_AGM+GL) I’ve been getting numbers like this consistently:

This particular trip was mostly 60-70mph on the interstate. I know these numbers can get skewed a bit but when I do the math at the pump, it seems to back it up. Three fill-ups so far and it’s at 19-20 MPG each time.

Configured fairly light (~300lbs of mods) on 4.88s gears turning 265s.

I think @GoldenBrew has you beat actually lol up in the Colorado mountains no less, although his only mods are the blower and 4.88's.

My wife and I both thought our non-FI tacoma was lack luster when it came to towing even with OVT 2.0. Since adding the SC the truck is, as should be expected, a totally different drive. Plenty of power for every aspect of driving, including towing. MPG average for local city 20 +, highway 21+, towing 16-18 depending on how many 10500 plus passes we travel over. The SC is worth it and the YotaWerx Stryker Tune is hands down the best FI tune for the Magnuson SC. I will be making a 600 mile plus round trip with the 3k + camper soon over two passes exceeding 10k in elevation. I will report back for those interested.

This morning, the YotaWerx Tuning + Nexus Tuning Group "Blackhawk" collaboration tune was run on the dyno; see below for dynograph and details regarding the regular octane Blackhawk tune vs the Stock 3.5L Tacoma tune. These runs were done in Phoenix, AZ, in 85F heat, on a DynoDynamics dyno (type of dyno).

    RegOL Blackhawk vs stock.jpg

The stock tune yielded higher peak horsepower while showing nearly identical peak torque, but these numbers aren't what matter. You don't spend much, if any, time up high above 5000 rpm.

Down lower in rpm, the Blackhawk tune demonstrates significant torque gain below 3800 rpm, which is where it's needed.

If some areas look more uneven or have large power dips, such as high up in rpm beginning around 5000rpm, this is because the stock tune knocks pretty badly, with KFB values as poor as -7 to -9 seen frequently. For frame of reference, -3 indicates no timing being added or reduced and numbers worse than that indicate timing being pulled by the ecu.

This is why you can have higher numbers that are not necessarily better for the tune and truck.

The dip seen around 4000rpm is another example of a range where timing advance creates more knock, and so we addressed that there as well. Like on our premium fuel Blackhawk tune, some people may incorrectly claim this is due to ACIS transition. This is due to evening out power and timing advance to provide a smoother tune that pulls stronger because it is not pulling timing as it goes.

Regarding ACIS, just like with the premium fuel tune, by smoothing out the ACIS transition and addressing the dip that accompanies it, that power can be smoothed out, and redistributed elsewhere quite easily. The result is as you see in the dynograph, with a significant torque increase below 3800rpm or so, including an estimated ~20whp/25wtq gain over stock at 3500 rpm, and at 3000 rpm an estimated ~10wtq gain can be seen which is typically quite apparent to drivers' butt dynos.

It is commonly said that dynographs don't really matter, that they're just tuning tools and what really matters is how the truck drives, how the tune feels. This is true enough, to a point. This is why tunes aren't developed solely off of dyno runs; they're developed and run on the street and include hours and hours of datalogging and review and revision and testing across several testers. The feedback is the same: this tune, and its premium fuel version, pull very strongly and smoothly, and we are confident that this is something that the community will enjoy very much.

Thank you all for your time and support, please stay safe.

You have to hit the little black button at the top. If you hover over it, it says flash tool or something like that

    Yotawerx SC review:

Finished up SC install and loaded Stryker MagSC 90mm tune with GL. I have 04B82, stock gears and tires, AT. Have URD Spec-U exhaust, retaining primary factory cats, URD larger radiator, Electric variable speed fan (mechanical fan delete), and a hard tonneau cover. Been running only 93 octane for more than a year, and have not played with gear lock yet.

Overall impression of the tune is Excellent!

I can only compare to the NA, stock Toyota 04B82 tune, as I never loaded any other NA tune, nor did I even try the Maggie tune.

So without the SC, I was totally disgusted with how this truck drove stock, ECT did not seem to do anything for me, so I often drove around in manual mode; and when in auto, often would go to manual for passing and to keep it from shifting constantly. Towing a trailer was crazy horrible, where I would lock it in 3rd and let her scream at over 5K rpm the whole way (figured I was saving the transmission as it could not even hold 60MPH without shifting constantly). Most common description for driving this truck was Pathetic! I had invested in a TT kit, so I never invested in any NA tune; figured it to be throwing away money as the TT was (always) only a few weeks away. Anyhow.

Today I drove all hilly twisty back roads for a 140 mile run, totally left the shifter in auto, and the truck is finally a pleasure to drive! Very responsive, shifting is much improved, torque is adequate, and fuel economy actually improved? Needs more testing, but yes according to the dash, getting 2mpg better with the SC! Could be? This sure is a HUGE credit to tune development, as it is easy to make more power without regard for fuel economy (especially with boost), but clearly this tune is dialed in much better than that.

Some of the fuel economy is probably from the mechanical fan delete; and also how I wired in the electric fan. I feel that the radiator should take full advantage of free airflow, and the electric should only run when the free air is not adequate; even then, the electric should only work hard enough to keep temperature in range. I control the electric variable speed fan with a sensor at the bottom outlet of the radiator, and it does not begin to run till 140f. Running the electric fan is considered to take less energy than the mechanical, but moving air requires energy, and any electric consumed is burning gas, so minimizing how long and how fast the fan runs, should help with fuel economy; at least a little.

I also formed 1/8 inch plastic, to completely seal 98% of the gaps and holes behind the grille; such that all air that enters the grill, no longer has any way to bypass the radiator. Sealed the bottom, sides and top. Plus cut in flapper vents to the backside of the fan shroud, to let air freely bypass the the fan, when the fan is off; again taking advantage of available free air, and reducing how often the fan burns fuel.

Sorry, back to the review: Pedal response is sharp, at very slow speeds is approaches being twitchy. I do not consider this a problem or challenge, and have not driven enough to get my foot re-calibrated from the pathetic mode, but I am thinking that less aggressive might be appreciated for snowplowing, and really close to cars and structures. I feel that when snowplowing, the smoother you apply power to the tires, the better the traction. I also noticed that this truck does not like to go slow, with the Maggie, it has enough torque that just a little bit of throttle will hover around 40+ mph; and this makes me think that fuel economy might increase even more for city driving, if the throttle were less sensitive. This is presuming that stable and subtle throttle inputs, increases fuel economy. Though slow speeds are totally manageable, I feel the throttle could be dialed back. I note that since Yotawerx has a "+" option, for more pedal response; I may be in the minority here; but if a "Stryker -" (minus) were created, I would definitely try it. I can move my foot quickly when I need to, but as this is, I am chirping a tire when turning sharp from a stop sign, without intention.

Shifting is commonly wonderful, a much improved over 04B82, and that was a vast improvement over 04B81. I have not floored it from a stop yet, but overall shifting is very nice. It does sometimes shift funky, occasionally can't decide what gear to be in, but is 1/10th as often as before. There is one that baffles me: when I am accelerating, but near target speed and continually backing off the pedal, the truck at one point downshifts, only to up-shift again quite quickly. Makes no sense why it downshifts as I am steadily reducing the feeder. Maybe it will learn this one away.

Again, sharing what my impression is, but do not take any of this as a complaint. I am detail oriented, and at most this is feedback for consideration, or just call it my personal impression. Also recognize that the tune is not entirely settled in yet. I am very happy in my investment, for the SC and for the Yotawerx tune. These guys clearly did the work, and make a great product. I look forward to driving the truck now, and this a first even though I have had it a couple years already.

    Thank you Yotawerx Team!

I’m curious what the breakdown of Stryker tune users are. MT vs AT? I assume I’m not the only 04B91? Just interested in who decides to go SC.

Truky! Yes; as long as you mean installed it myself. I tend to never let anyone touch my vehicles, I make mistakes too, but at least they are mine, not some expert that i paid big dollars to. I followed the other threads, installed Techstream, updated the ECU from 04B81 to 04B82 about 4 weeks ago. I also updated my VFtuner, (i had an old version of VFtuner, but had never used it except to read the ECU code), linked it to the Maggy orange dongle, spent those credits for my vin. Then a few days ago loaded the Yotawerx tune. was a little stressful, but did not take long, and it verified the install, truck started and stress over.

Regarding fixing others mistakes: I have an 09 Tacoma that Toyota put a new frame on. when i picked it up, the brake pedal went very close to the floor, so I immediately went back inside. Mechanic supposedly re bleed the brakes, while I sat for 2 hours, and was not any better. Told me they are the same as when it rolled in and are fine. On the way home, I was frustrated and turned around 4 times, they were so bad I had to go back, but then realized they are just going to give me the run around till I am out of time and need a ride home, I better just live with it to get home and fix myself! A few stop lights later, so disgusted that they let me leave with brakes this way, I turned around again! only to again realize the least frustrating way forward was to go home. What I found was that they stripped out the threads on a rear wheel cylinder, and was not leaking, but they obviously refused to fix it to bleed the brakes. Tapped the hole and new bleeder, and back in business. Several other problems from that frame job too. Was worth it, but I expect too much, i guess.

After the long wait for the SC install and loading Stryker+ last night, I went for a 20 minute test drive today and my initial impression is holy molly!! Admittedly, I didn't go heavy on the throttle as I want to allow time for things to settle. But even without going too heavy, the throttle response and power is immediate. I definitely will try this tune for some time, and might even try Stryker (non +) later on to see how I like that throttle response. Although, I feel I should've gone the other way around because once I get used to this throttle, I probably will not want to go for anything less.

I'll report back after a full tank of gas to see how things have settled.

Only thing I'm monitoring is this oil leak I saw after the test drive (see image below). I found one tiny drop on the ground. Not sure what to make of it yet. We'll see how it goes from here.
